FUNERAL HOME

Benjamin Myers Obituary

Benjamin C. Myers, 23, of Midland, was unexpectedly called home Saturday, June 14, 2014 doing what he loved most, racing motorcycles.

Ben was born April 17, 1991 in Midland, the son of Kris and Annette (Chapin) Myers. He attended Midland schools and graduated from H.H. Dow High School in 2010. He attended Delta College, and was enrolled to begin at Northwestern Michigan College in the fall of 2014 to study welding technology. He was also employed with Three Rivers Corporation.

Ben lived everyday like it was his last, and enjoyed working on trucks, riding and racing motorcycles, hunting and fishing, as well as being on the lake camping, boating and doing water sports. Ben was a MidMichigan Livestock 4-H Club member and raised pigs for 10 years. He also enjoyed working on his family farm, and recently purchased his first piece of farm property.

Ben is loved by and will be greatly missed by many family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Kris and Annette Myers; and his brothers, Ryan (Ashley) Myers and Nick Myers (Katelyn Clark). He also leaves his grandparents, Joyce Myers and Don and Connie Chapin; as well as his aunts and uncles, Kevin Myers, Kirk (Lynn) Myers, Kyle (Cindy) Myers, Kraig (Sue) Myers, Kelly (George) Owens, Karla (Joe) Beman, Jeanette (Doug) O'Boyle and Charles (Misty) Chapin. Many cousins also survive him.

Ben was preceded in death by his grandpa, Robert Myers.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014 from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 3516 E. Monroe Road at Jefferson Road. Ben's family will receive friends at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street on Wednesday, from 2-8 p.m., and at the church on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

Annette, Kris, Don and Connie. When my brother Dennis was killed in Viet Nam, a Mother of another fallen soldier sent this poem to my parents. I have shared it to so many families that have lost a child. Hope it gives you some comfort.

A Child Of Mine

I will lend you, for a little time,
A child of mine, He said.
For you to love the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years,
Or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief.
You'll have his lovely memories,
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over,
In search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labour vain.
Nor hate me when I come
To take him home again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
'Dear Lord, Thy will be done!'
For all the joys Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner than we've planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand.
