Chris Fath Obituary

Chris T. Fath, 73, of Sanford, passed away peacefully at 4 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2015 at Medilodge of Midland. He was born Sept. 16, 1942 in Midland, son of the late Thomas and Grace (Mackey) Fath. Chris was a graduate of Midland High School. He served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961-1965.

Chris had three daughters, Saundra Marie Deichert of Fowlerville, and Cristal (Howard) Curtis and Charlene Fath, all of Bend, Ore. He also had five grandchildren, Alyshia (Sean) Carver, Amanda (Travis) Kirkegaard, Emily Elsey, all of Bend, Ore., and Ryan Cesarz and Erin Deichert, both of Fowlerville. He was also the proud great-grand father of Rylee and Tristan of Fowlerville.

Chris met the former Carolyn Miller at Sambos Restaurant in 1982, and after many cups of coffee, and him being a big tipper, they united in marriage on April 22, 1995 in Midland. With his marriage to Carolyn, he was blessed with three more step-children, Andrew Miller of Sanford, Aaron Miller of Bay City, and Andrea (Joe) Holcomb of Sanford; and two step-grandchildren, Brooke and Blake Holcomb. Chris had three sisters, Donna (Everett) Wright of Sanford, and his half-sister, Madelyn Sasse. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Smith. Also surviving besides his wife Carolyn and his children and grandchildren, are many aunts, uncles and cousins, including Gary Dennis, who he referred to as his brother.

Chris was employed in construction for many years. His main employment was as a Teamster with Bechtel at the Midland Nuclear Plant. He was also employed at other jobs before going to Cedar Rapids to attend C.D.L. Truck Driving School in July of 1993. He started his truck driving career as a team driver for CRST. In December of 1993, he was employed by Tandem Transport of Michigan City, Ind., driving a flatbed and attending Skid School. In 2008 he found a home with Saginaw Valley Freight Lines of Bay City, driving a Dry Box, to all parts of the Central United States.

Nothing pleased him more than having his wife travel with him. Together they both enjoyed rodeos, mud bogs, country music dancing and flea markets. He loved to "pick on people," and the "dispatchers" were not exempt. He worked hard for the company until his illness forced him to retire in October.

Visitation for Chris will take place from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street in Midland. Honoring his request, there are no services planned. Cremation will follow the visitation hours. His cremains will be inurned later in the New Edenville Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Fath family.
