Clarice Carriere

1923 - 2016

Clarice J. Carriere, 93, of Morton, Ill., formerly of Madison, Wis., passed away at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at her home.

She was born Jan. 17, 1923, in Moline, Ill., to Arthur and Gladys (Hughes) Bicknell. She married Conrad J. Carriere on Sept. 19, 1951, in Moline. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2004. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Bicknell; and two sisters, Maureen Waterhouse and Beverly Seidlitz.

Surviving are one son, Craig J. Carriere of Morton; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Bicknell of Moline; several nieces and nephews; and her dear family friends, Terry and Ruth Schwalenberg of Fort Atkinson, Wis.

Clarice worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years starting at Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill. After marrying her husband, she moved to Madison, Wis., and practiced pediatric nursing at Jackson Clinic and Methodist Hospital. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin and became the first registered nurse practitioner in the state of Wisconsin. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Morton. She loved gardening which she pursued actively. It was a life-long interest that was shared by her husband and son. She could usually be found working in her gardens or in the acres of strawberries that she and her husband raised while in the Madison area. She was a beloved mother, wife and friend with a kind and generous heart. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Advent Lutheran Church in Morton, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dennis O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, 1211 S.
