David Patrick Obituary

David "Dave" Patrick
David "Dave" Wayne Patrick, 75, of Midland, passed away, January 20, 2024, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland with his family by his side. He was born on May 13, 1948, in Flint, son of the late Ray and Bessie (Allen) Patrick.
Dave attended Midland Public Schools and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was very proud to have served his country in Vietnam and was proud to tell everyone that he is a Marine. After his service in the Marine Corps, he enlisted with the National Guard (first in Midland, MI then Ionia, MI) to continue his service to our country until retiring with 20 years of military service. Dave loved the Marine Corps and his fellow veterans with every fiber of his being. Dave had a desire to serve veterans and worked as a veteran's service officer with both the Marine Corps League and Veterans of Foreign Wars office in Detroit, Michigan. Dave was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars serving as District 11 Commander and Post #3651 Quartermaster. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans #94 and American Legion #443. Throughout his involvement in these organizations, he gained many friends, and he cherished those friendships. Dave was very passionate about his family. He loved the time spent with each and every one of them. He enjoyed going hunting in Wyoming with his dad, his brothers, and son-in law. He was so happy that he got to experience the Wyoming summer beauty with his oldest grandson, Andrew and youngest Daughter, Shawn. He loved the time he spent at his grandkids' sporting events. Dave's other hobbies included golfing (where he taught us all some colorful language), watching the Detroit Tigers, and was a long-time suffering Detroit Lions fan (like most of us) …but this is looking like this might be the Lions year, so he is for sure smiling down from heaven. The hobby he enjoyed most was having a Bud Light and talking with his friends at the VFW.
Dave will be missed by his daughters, Cherie (Chris) Wilson and Shawn (David) Swaim; grandchildren, Andrew Wilson, Brendan Wilson, Alexis Wilson, Marissa Swaim, Matthew Swaim; brothers and sisters, Mike Patrick, Ron (Gretchen) Mann, Bonnie Kovacs, and Pam Patrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother Mary Patrick.
Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024, at The Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler Street, Midland. Burial will take place later in Great Lakes National Cemetery. David's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider VFW Post 3651.
All of us at Ware Smith Woolever are honored the Patrick family has entrusted us with the care of their loved one. Condolences to the family may be made at www.wswfh.com

I thought a lot of Dave and even though we went our separate ways after joining the military whenever we saw each other we talked about the old days as most of us do and spent time laughing about the stupid things we did in high school. I miss him

As a fellow state VFW Service Officer Dave was dedicated and driven in obtaining the highest benefits for his fellow veterans, widows and their dependents. He was an outstanding coworker as well as a good friend. My husband and I send our deepest sympathy to the family. God Bless you Dave!

A very dedicated VFW service officer - he went out of his way to help me a few different times - and, I´m sure there are many who can vouch for that! May he R.I.P.

Dave and I go way to back to high school where we were good friends. We both joined the service at about the same time and then saw each other occasionally since. We are in Florida now and will not be able to attend his funeral. Penny and I are sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss. My husband, Jim Chapman was a good friend of Dave's and his brother Ron. They were hunting buddies. Jim pasted away last January. I expect that they will be in heaven discussing the good times they had together in the woods hunting deer. Rest in peace, Dave.
