Douglas Huebner Obituary

Douglas Roy Huebner
Douglas Roy Huebner, age 63, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 5. Doug was born in Midland on April 26, 1959; the first child of Donald and Carol (Thomas) Huebner. Doug attended Midland schools (Longview, Eastlawn, and Northeast) and graduated from Midland High School in 1977. He was a defensive end on the Chemic football team coached by Bob Stoppert. He was also a letter winner on the Chemic baseball team. Doug graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration.
He embraced fatherhood and enjoyed watching his daughter and only child, Makiah, in numerous competitions over the years. He was especially proud that she received her degree from Central Michigan University with a degree in Recreation Event Management.
In life, he was employed by various construction companies. In recent years, Doug helped his mother, and assisted his sister, Leslie, while her husband, Dr. Paul Walker, was struggling with A.L.S. He loved his family and was a loyal and kind friend. Doug had a circle of best friends, some of whom were recent, and several that had been friends since grade school. They all stuck together through the years and had each other's back.
Doug was a big Detroit Lions fan-- despite their record of playoff futility over the years. He always knew the Lions roster inside and out and was quick to predict how many wins he thought the Lions were going to have in any season. His prediction for the 2022 season was 6 wins and 11 losses. Doug analyzed each Lions draft day carefully and was quick to share his opinions with family members and friends, often
getting into long discussions about players and coaches. He won so many family college football bowl pools that he was on the verge of being banned by other participants.
He had a gift for gab and could turn what should have been a five-minute discussion on any topic into an hour and a half. Doug had strong opinions about many things and was quick to defend them however, he had a soft and sentimental heart, which he often tried to hide.
Doug will be dearly missed by his daughter Makiah; his mother, Carol Huebner; his sisters, Kelly (Rick) Robinson, Lisa (John) Gall, Leslie Walker, and Tracy Wissel; two aunts: Rhonda (Michael) Mott and Candace (Robert) Markey; and several nieces, nephews, and first cousins.
Doug was predeceased by his father, Donald Huebner, grandparents Del and Nora Huebner; Irma Minton, and Roy and Alma Thomas; and his aunt and uncle, Carol and Richard Loose.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, July 12 at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home in Midland.
On Wednesday, July 13, visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM, followed by a memorial service for Doug with Pastor Chuck Jacobson officiating.
Burial will be in Midland Cemetery.

Stunned! We are out west these days and pull up and read MDN occasionally. Hueb was one of the good ones, an original. Treated everyone the same, from the richest to the poorest, everyone got his best. RIP brother

We attended Midland High School together. He was a sweet and kind person, and a tremendous athlete. He will be missed, I am sure. Praying peace over his family at this difficult time.

I am sad to hear about the loss of Doug. I grew up as a friend to Karyl and her family. My condolences to the family and may your memories with Doug be a comfort to you as you mourn his life.
