Duane Clark Obituary

Duane M. Clark, 74, of Midland, was gracefully welcomed into eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven on the morning of Aug. 28, 2007.

He was a successful entrepreneur who owned his own commercial masonry business. He loved spending time with his family and taking his grandchildren to the donut shop. Duane also was an avid outdoorsmen who enjoyed hunting and fishing. On Aug. 31, 1957, he married Loris Marie Rushton, with whom he would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary later this month.

In addition to Loris, Duane also leaves behind a son, Steven (Mona) Clark of Sanford; two daughters, Janette (Bill) DeShano and Karyn (Dale) McFarland all of Auburn; seven grandchildren, Ryan and Justin DeShano, Cory Rokosz, Seth and Katie Clark, and Delaney and Ean McFarland; two sisters, Arlene Kelley of Commerce Township, and Blanche (Harley) Larson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Bryers; and his parents, Ivan and Katryn Clark of Lakefield.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at St. Anthony Catholic Church (Midland & 11 Mile Rds.). The Rev. Fr. Thomas E. Sutton will officiate. Cremation will follow at Sunset Valley Crematory, Bay City.

Duane's family will receive friends at the Auburn Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. on Thursday from 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. On Friday morning, Duane will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until time of liturgy. There will be a parish wake service 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Dear Loris and Family,

I was very saddened to hear of Duanes's passing. Duane was a very kind and considerate man. Duane gave me my first job back in 1968 after high school. I was a mason tender at Fashion Sq Mall. That job gave me the work ethic I have now some 30+ years later. I cannot thank Duane enough for that. May God bless you and your family.

Duane's passing. He was beyond question one of the nicest, finest men we ever knew. He was truly one of the "good guys." Dear Mrs. Clark and family,

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Clark. I will keep your family in my prayers. As long-time neighbors of my family, it will be hard not to think of him across the street from my parents' house as always, working in the yard and keeping it looking well kept.

I remember one day, when I must have been in high school, that I was home from school on a snow day. I was out shoveling the driveway, and Mr. Clark was snowblowing your driveway. After he finished, he came over and did the rest of ours after telling me to go on back inside. I did as he said and went in to bake him some cookies as a thank you, which was a surprise to him when I took them over. That's how I'll always remember him--hardworking, unassuming and helpful.
