Frances Oliver Obituary

Frances Oliver
The family of Frances Ellen Oliver (Nold), Fran, announce her passing at Independence Village of Midland on August 15, 2021, at 92 years of age.
Fran was born September 9, 1928, to Martin and Agnes Nold in Clay County, Illinois, then moved to Midland at a very young age. Fran married Douglas Oliver in December 1955. Doug predeceased her in December 2018. They were married for 66 years. They had a long and loving marriage, filled with hard work, fun and wonderful memories; they traveled, owned a cottage on Secord Lake and a winter home in Fort Pierce, Florida.
During her life, Fran worked at Michigan Bell, Knepp's Clothing, Kroger and Doctor Itner's office. In addition, she volunteered at the VA Hospital, Midland Hospital, American Legion home for the elderly and gave generously to many charities.
Fran was a unique person, a very wise and caring woman with many friends and seemingly no enemies. She maintained an 85-year relationship with her best friend Ruth Lytle, who predeceased her. She was a member of the First Families of Midland, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Union 1861-1865, and was even a distant relative of the famous Annie Oakley. She enjoyed ceramics, cross-stitching, genealogy and talking on the phone, especially to her best friend Ruthie and sister Wilma.
Fran was extremely close with her sister Wilma North of Midland, and brother Ernest Nold, who predeceased her. She loved her children and grandchildren with every fiber of her body, and we were lucky to have had her as a mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her children Robert (Penny) Churchfield, Mark Oliver, Randy (Wendy) Oliver all from Midland; grandchildren Robert Churchfield Jr. of Hancock, New Hampshire, Jennifer (Andres) Suarez of Midland, Michael Oliver of Midland; great grandchildren Chelsea Bruns, Ashlea Dull, Brandon Dull and great-great grandson Hudson Bruns. In addition, she had an extended family of grandchildren and great grandchildren, Thomas Churchfield, Richard Churchfield (deceased) Lucas Churchfield, Bradyn Churchfield, Robert Churchfield and Ryan Churchfield. These along with many nieces and nephews, all of whom loved and respected her for the woman she was.
We could all learn from Fran, how she conquered adversity early in adulthood, did not squander good fortune, supported her family as well as others and lived a relatively simple but rewarding life. She most certainly will be missed.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Fran's family will receive visitors at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Midland, Mi 48640 from 1 to 3 PM on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, with a private burial ceremony to follow.
