George Davis Obituary

George Davis
George F. Davis of Midland passed away on January 31, 2022. George was born in Flint, MI, on April 8, 1938, the son of the late Arlo and Orpha Davis. George graduated from Midland High School in 1957. After graduation, he traveled to California to attend Junior College near his sister, later finishing his studies at Bay City Jr. College. Most of his youth was spent in Midland where he married Judith Shrier on August 29, 1959. George proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1961 to 1967.
He worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company after 45 plus years of service doing everything from selling paint, lawn and garden equipment, Hardware Department Manager, Automotive Manager to Personnel Manager working at the Port Huron, Fashion Square Mall and the Midland locations. George was a terrific storyteller and served as the Master of Ceremony at numerous Sears retirement parties, class reunions and other various family gatherings, always the life of the party.
George volunteered for 22 years with the Ernie Wallace Memorial Blood Bank, now the Versiti Blood Center, Midland, serving on the board for many years logging over 1,000 volunteer hours and donating a lifetime total of 11 gallons. He also served as a host/Midland Red Coat for the Men's Fast Pitch Tournaments attending every game possible. After retirement the Michigan Antique Festival was another opportunity for him to meet and mingle while serving as an ambassador to vendors in the fair ground buildings.
Surviving is his wife Judith; his son Robert Davis; his daughters Kathleen (Edward) Wishowski and Lisa (Neil) Frost; his grandchildren Anna (Nathaniel) Eynon and Marea Wishowski; his brother in-law Thomas (Julianne) Shrier; and his sisters-in-law Jayne Shrier and Barbara Shrier.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother James Davis; his sister Patricia Stevens; and his brothers-in-law Dale Stevens, Eldon Shrier and Edwin Shrier.
The family will receive friends at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St., Midland between 5 PM and 8 PM on Thursday, February 3rd, and 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM on Friday, February 4, 2022.

The staff at Versiti Blood Center of Michigan will never forget George“s dedication as a donor and volunteer, especially to the then Ernie Wallace Blood Center at Midland Hospital. There is a special place in heaven for someone who played such a huge part in saving so, so many lives. The memory of his selflessness, quick wit, and wonderful smile will live on in our hearts forever. He was a super special volunteer. For that we are forever indebted and thankful.
