James Jankowiak Obituary

James M. Jankowiak, 61, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Midland, died Oct. 16, 2004, following a short illness.

Jim was the son of Erwin and the late Dorothy (Brady) Jankowiak. He graduated form Midland High School in 1961. He had served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Jim was a respiratory therapist, serving at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago from 1969 to 1981. He married Phyllis Mehegan of Chicago in 1970; she survives him. Jim had also served 22 years as a deputy sheriff for Cook County, Ill., retiring in 2003. He was a wonderful husband and father. He loved to sing, and along with his wife, Phyliss, sang for many years in the choir of their parish church in Chicago.

Jim is survived by his son, James E. Jankowiak of Chicago, Ill.; his grandson, James P. Jankowiak of Chicago, Ill.; his father, Erwin Jankowiak of Midland; and his brothers and sisters, Michael Jankowiak of Midland, Mary Jo Asadorian of Sanford, Linda Millar of Omer, Jane Moshier of Fredrick, Md., Barbara Heaston of West Milton, Ohio, Paula Smerdon of Sanford, Thomas Jankowiak of Martinez, Calif. and Steve Jankowiak of Midland.

The Funeral Mass for Jim was held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Chicago, with Interment at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Ill.
