John Hollingsworth Obituary
John Hollingsworth
John Robert Hollingsworth, age 64, passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer on June 15, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, John lived a life marked by love and kindness. He cherished nothing more than time spent with family. He was so happy to celebrate Sarah and Jared Kienitz's marriage in May. And just two weeks after that, he joyfully welcomed his granddaughter, Eleanor Elizabeth LaPorte, into the world.
John and his wife, Margie, enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, and attending concerts together. One of their most memorable trips was the time they spent in Italy celebrating their anniversary. They also spent many weekends camping in Lake City (where John was "kind of a big deal") and boating on Lake Missaukee. John loved all live music but was convinced that very little recorded after the 70's was worth listening to.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, John had a deep passion for both hockey and golf. He spent many years on the ice as both a goalie and coach, mentoring young players and sharing his love for the game. John was an avid golfer and lover of "birdie juice". He played in three different leagues and enjoyed his yearly trips with the guys to Bay Harbor, Outer Banks, and Sarasota.
John was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where his faith guided his daily life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Christ Renews leadership team, and was a Eucharistic minister.
John enjoyed helping others and was a volunteer for Senior Services where he was a transportation driver. He loved getting to know the clients and always tried to bring a smile to their face. John was also on the Board of Directors for the Reese Endeavor of Midland whose mission is to provide homes for individuals with special needs.
John will be remembered for his sense of humor, his generosity, and the unwavering love he showed to his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Margie; his children Tom Hollingsworth, Tyler Hollingsworth, Alex Gall, Chloe (Jonathon) LaPorte, and Sarah (Jared) Kienitz; his grandchildren Nathan and Zoey Hollingsworth and Eleanor LaPorte; along with his sisters Mary Stutelberg and Margaret LeClere.
Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home on Thursday, June 26, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a vigil and time for sharing memories at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Midland with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John's memory to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or Senior Services Midland.
