Julie Ostergren Obituary

Julie L Ostergren, 54, of Midland, died unexpectedly at her home, Thursday, May 21, 2015. She was born Nov. 27, 1960, in Midland, daughter of John T. and Ilene F. (Landon) Kawiecki. Julie attended Midland schools and played basketball for Midland High School, graduating in 1979. She married Kevin Ostergren, her high school sweetheart and husband of over 30 years, on Oct. 27, 1984. Together they have two children, Jodi of Tampa, Fla., and Brad of Midland.

Julie held a license in cosmetology. She worked for many years at Michigan Lutheran Services and the Arc of Midland as a caretaker to those with developmental disabilities.

Julie devoted her life to family and many dear friends. One of her passions was cooking and entertaining. She had a way of bringing people together and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Most of all, she loved to have fun; her laugh was contagious. Other interests included attending all of her children's sporting events and taking vacations to Florida with her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband and children are her brothers, John (Judy) Kawiecki of Midland, Mike (Cindy) Kawiecki of Jamestown, N.C., Ray (Nancy) Kawiecki of Midland, Al (Beth) Kawiecki of Saginaw; and her sister, Kathy Kawiecki of Midland; father and mother-in-law, Dr. John and Carol Ostergren; sisters-in-law, Vondria (Wayne) Ledderman of New York City, Laura (John) Bell of Raleigh, N.C., Diane Gilson of Ypsilanti; and brother-in-law, Eric (Karen) Ostergren of Midland; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral liturgy for Julie will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015, from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3109 Swede Ave. Father Kevin Maksym will officiate. Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery. Julie's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of mass.
