L. Langfeldt Obituary

L. Daniel "Dan" Langfeldt
L. Daniel "Dan" Langfeldt, 89, of Midland, died at home surrounded by family, on Sunday morning, December 3, 2023. Dan was born in Yankton, SD, to Leo and Marguerite (Haley) Langfeldt on May 11, 1934. He grew up in Mankato, MN and graduated from Mankato West High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering at SD School of Mines where he also played center and long snapper on the football team. ROTC prepared him for service in the United States Army Reserves as a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers.
Dan worked underground in Butte Montana's copper mines and, while in Butte, courted Marlene Harvey. They married on September 8, 1957, and recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. In 1963 Dan began a long career at The Dow Chemical Company, which brought his family to Minnesota, Arizona, Michigan, Texas, West Virginia, California, and back to Michigan. Following retirement, Dan worked as a stocker at Ashcraft/Glenn's and became a familiar face to many. Dan was an active member of AIME, SME and brought his dedication to service and fellowship to churches and service organizations wherever he lived. He was a member of Midland First United Methodist Church and served on mission trips while he was able.
Dan enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, sports, golf, going for rides, and spending time with his grandkids. Dan drove his family to Butte, MT every summer to spend time with Marlene's family and to make memories fishing, camping and enjoying mountain life. Dan said that if granted three wishes, they would be for a happy family, good fishing, and travel.
Dan will be missed dearly by his wife, Marlene; daughters, Lezlee Johnson of Fargo, ND, Lisa Wacker of Houston, TX, Robin (John) Wazny of Linwood, MI, and Dinah (Dan) Garland of Midland, MI; grandchildren, Bret (Michelle) Wazny, Katie (Aaron) Stachnik, Alex (Allie) Wacker, Jake Wacker, Ross Johnson, Dan (Terra) Johnson, Shannon Johnson, Malissa Garland, and Mitch Garland; six great grandchildren and nieces and nephews who loved him.
In accordance with Dan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home. Times and dates will be announced. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the donor's favorite charity. I worked with Dan and Marlene at the store while in college. They are wonderful people, sad to hear of Dan's passing. Much love to Marlene as she navigates life without him. Holding your family prayer.

Marlene, Dan was a man of few words so you had better listen. I enjoyed working with him. Prayers for you and your family.
