Lena Eastman Obituary

Lena Mae Eastman, 92, of Sanford, died Monday morning, March 5, 2007, at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1915, in St. Louis, the daughter of Chester and Pearl (Wilson) Hoyt. On Nov. 14, 1931, she married Orville F. Eastman at the Floyd Church of God. Her mother-in-law, Frances Eastman, founder and pastor of the church for many years, officiated the wedding. Lena was a waitress and homemaker for many years. She will be dearly remembered as a very giving lady who centered her life around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a special "Thank You" to MidMichigan Hospice, nurses: Sue, Sharyl and Chris; caregivers: Lani, Angie, Jean, Cheryl and Nancy and to all others who have been so helpful these last months.

She is survived by her sons, James Eastman and Douglas (Mary) Eastman, all of Midland; 17 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; 45 great-great grandchildren; and her half sister, Gladys Gallihugh of St. Louis. She was predeceased by her husband, Orville on Nov. 11, 1979; her parents, Chester and Pearl Hoyt; her sons, Leonard Eastman and Larry Eastman; her grandsons, Michael, Daniel, Byron and Tim; a great-grandson, Brian; her daughters-in-law, Margie Eastman and Bettie Eastman; her brother, Milton Hoyt; and her sister, Lotus Longabaugh.

Funeral services for Lena will take place 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at the Floyd Church of God, 1015 W. Chippewa River Rd. Pastor Jim Shanks and Pastor Jeff Eckman will officiate, with burial in Homer Township Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St. on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Floyd Church of God.

To The Eastman Family: Our Hearts hurt with yours: Your loss is our loss. We have been privileged to have Grandma Eastman in our lives for so many years. We will never forget her and all the words of comfort, wisdom, advice she gave to all of us. She was a wise woman; she always seemed to have the right words to say in any circumstance. We loved her so. May God be with all of you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your family. Marilyn, Ryan, Jason and Jeremy Martin
