Madge Wilcox Obituary

Madge M. Wilcox, 83, of Midland, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at The Nottingham Nursing Home of complications from Alzheimer's disease. She was born May 2, 1922 to the late Lawrence and Roberta (Robinson) Taylor and was the fourth of seven children in the Taylor family including: brother, Howard Taylor (deceased); sister, Alma Taylor Copybarger "Sis"; sister, Caroline Taylor Rupp (deceased); sister, Iona Taylor Goff (deceased); brother, Edward Taylor; and brother Frederick Taylor. Madge married Fred G. Maisch, Jr. (deceased) in June of 1944 in Radford, VA and relocated to Easton, PA after the war before arriving in Midland in 1956. After several widowed years, she married Allan Wilcox in September of 1981. Madge was active in the Midland Liberal Arts Club where she served several times as Chairperson during her 40+ years of participation. She volunteered at the local Republican Party office, was a long-time volunteer manning the operatory waiting room for the Midland Hospital Society, and served for many years as a wedding arranger for St. John's Episcopal Church. Both Madge and Allan Wilcox had lost their spouses in the previous year and ere brought together by mutual friends and fell deeply in love and married September 5, 1981. They had a wonderful life. Madge joined Allan's Memorial Presbyterian Church where Allan has been a member since 1947 and has served many offices including Trustee and Elder. They joined the Midland Country Club where they managed the Couples Bridge for a number of years. They enjoyed The Center for the Arts programs and Madge practiced her good bridge with the Couples Bridge and the Marathon Bridge Club. They each had some world travel experience and they started their honeymoon in Hawaii. Their world travels included Alaska, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Panama Canal, Columbia, South America, Bermuda, England, France, Italy and Greece. Survivors include her beloved husband Allan; sons, F. Michael Maisch (Gwen) of Okemos, Robert E. Maisch (Kristene Gore) of Copley, OH, Jeffrey R. Maisch (Kathleen) of Placentia, CA; two stepchildren, Phillip Wilcox (Linda) of Holland, and Jeannie Schoen (Ronald) of Williamston; goddaughter, Angela R. Slayton (Tom) of Lake St. Louis; five grandchildren, David R. Maisch (Kristy) and Scott C. Maisch of Willowick, OH, Jane W. Maisch (Matthew Horny) of Cleveland, OH, Gregory T. Maisch and Ellen C. Maisch of Placentia, CA. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rev. Wallace H. Mayton III officiating with burial in Midland Cemetery. Madge's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Nottingham Nursing Home or Alzheimer's Association. to Al and all of Madge's families: We have been out of state for the past 2-1/2 weeks and just found out about Madge. She was such a caring person and we will always remember her. Yes, she left her mark with many of us. Our sympathies, but know she is in a much better place with our Lord now.
