Margaret Calkins Obituary
Margaret A. "Maggie" Calkins, 84, of Midland, died the morning of Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. Daughter of the late Joseph and Guadalupe (Valles) Ortiz, Margaret was born on September 24, 1939, in Pleasant Valley, MI. After graduation, she entered the work force and was a nurse technician at MyMichigan Medical Center. Margaret loved softball, basketball, bowling, camping, traveling, and motorcycle rallying. She was also a number one fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers.
Left to cherish Margaret's memory are her spouse of 46 years, Terry Calkins, and their children, Scott Smith, JoLynn Faul (Kenneth), and Justin Avery; grandchildren, Kendal, Taylor, and Tyler; three great grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Margaret will also be missed by her siblings, Alicia Hughes, Ray (Doris) Ortiz, Virginia (Gary) Smith, Marty (Keith) Stewart, Felix (Becki) Ortiz, and Robert (Julie) Ortiz; and in-laws Steve (Karen) Calkins, Janet (Jim) Sequin, Sue (Paul) Sheskey, and Becky Higgins. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her siblings, Carolina Cisneros, Gilbert Ortiz, John Ortiz, and Mary Siminski; in-law, Chad Calkins; and long-time friend and co-worker, Betty Plumer.
A memorial service for Margaret will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Father Jack Johnson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the donor's favorite charity.
