It is with sadness that the family of Marianne E. Waters announce that their Energizer Bunny has run out of battery. Our loving wife, mother, and sister was called to Heaven April 18, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Marianne was born July 20, 1950 in Bay City, daughter of the late Edward C. and Hulda (Weiss) Burk. She grew up on the family farm and attended Trinity (Monitor) Lutheran Elementary School, graduating from Bay City Central High School in 1968. While in high school, Marianne worked for Bay City Bank and the Dow Bay City Refinery. She went on to attend Delta College, graduating with an associate's degree. Soon after, Marianne began what would be a 21 year career with Dow Chemical Company. During this time, she continued her education at Central Michigan University, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
On November 22, 1991, Marianne married Bart Waters and together raised three children. As a family, they spent several years living on their hobby farm with animals and large gardens. Even after leaving the farm, she always kept her vegetable and flower gardens, becoming a "master gardener" in 2014. Marianne also enjoyed sports such as soccer, tennis, water skiing, and especially downhill skiing. Always wanting to keep busy even while at rest, Marianne filled her time with sewing quilts for both her family and the church. She enjoyed being an active member of her community through her volunteer work. Marianne dedicated her time to Trinity Lutheran Church, Chippewa Nature Center, Dahlia Hill, and her favorite, Dow Gardens. Hers was truly a well lived life, and she will be missed by many.
Marianne is survived by her husband, Bart Waters; children, Katherine Waters, Elizabeth Waters, and David Waters; brothers, John Burk and Harley (Becky) Burk; and sister-in-law, Nancy Burk. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ken Burk and sister-in-law, Connie Burk.
Memorial services for Marianne will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday April 24th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland, 3701 Jefferson Ave. Her family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday April 23rd from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday April 24th from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Trinity Lutheran Church of Midland or Trinity Lutheran Church (Monitor) in Bay City.
