Marie Silagyi

AGE: 74 • Woodbridge

Marie (Mary Monica) Silagyi was born August 15, 1938, in Ireland Co. Cavan in the town of Bailieboro. Marie came to the U.S at the age of 18, where she met and fell in love with her husband of 53 years, Carl Silagyi in the city of lights - NYC.

Marie worked for Mattel and later Block Drug Company, which she retired from after 20 years of service. Marie was a loving Mother and Grandma, and a devoted wife. She had a true zest for life. She was a true friend and confidant. Marie was an avid reader. She also loved to sew clothing for her daughters and was an active member of the PTA when they were young. She was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Woodbridge. Marie was a wonderful cook and created all her meals with a tender loving touch. Marie lost her battle to breast cancer on July 28th after a long valiant fight.

Marie is predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Brady, brothers Patsy, Jim, Tommy, Sean and her sister Rose, all of Ireland. She is survived by her husband Carl Silagyi of Woodbridge, two daughters Sheila Silagyi of Edison and Donna Rech of Woodbridge, granddaughter Candice Rech of Woodbridge, her brother Philip Brady of Ireland, and many nieces and nephews.

The visitations will be held Tuesday July 30th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Gerity & Chubenko Funeral Home 411 Amboy Ave in Woodbridge. A funeral mass will be held at St. James Church 341 Amboy Ave in Woodbridge, Wednesday July 31st at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure or Haven Hospice at the JFK Medical Center in her honor. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. To send condolences visit www.geri tyfh.com

I first met my Aunt Marie when I was about 6. She and my Uncle Carl took me to the Bronx Zoo and we had a really great time. I remember thinking my Uncle was really lucky to have just married such a beautiful lady.

We were all so lucky to have known this beautiful lady.

I am so glad that I was able to meet Marie and found her to be a lovely person who was obviously loved and respected by her family. Marie will be missed by all who knew her. Rest in Peace Marie. My deepest sympathies go out to the Silagyi family.
