Nicholas Tallmadge Obituary

Nicholas James Tallmadge, 34, of New York City, N.Y., died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va. Nick was born in 1979 in Midland, the son of Bruce J. and Janice K. Tallmadge.

He attended Handley High School, Lord Fairfax Community College, Guilford Technical Community College and Bartending School.

He began his food service career in 2001 with Montego Bay in Greensboro as a bartender / waiter, and later became a manager.

In 2009, he moved to New York for the more vibrant life style and was a manager at The Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village. He also worked at the four-star restaurant, Low Country Kitchen, also in the village. He truly loved this environment and the city life.

Nick loved music, especially The Grateful Dead, Otis Redding and Frank Sinatra. He enjoyed attending music festivals, and it gave him great pleasure to cook for friends and family.

He enjoyed the art of stand-up comedy and participated in Open-Mic Nights at various clubs in New York City. He was fiercely loyal to the family and friends he loved and he will be remembered in our hearts forever.

Surviving with his parents is his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Parling of Midland; sister, Tracy Goss, and her husband, Glenn of Randleman, N.C.; sister, Brooke Tallmadge of Kernersville, N.C.; Aunt, Kay Blake, and her husband, Russ of Boise, Idaho; Aunt, Linda Manni of Plymouth; Uncle, Craig Parling of Canton; nieces, Kylie Keefauver and Kendall Goss, both of Randleman, N.C. Also surviving is Nick's special friend, Harmony Shane of Winchester, Va.; as well as his rescue dog, Nickel.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, Highway 158, Stokesdale, N.C.
