Paul Young Obituary

Rev. Paul Young
On Tuesday, January 30, 2024, our Precious Lord and Savior said to Rev. Paul V. Young, "Well done, good and faithful servant … enter into the joy of the Lord." (Matthew 25:21) Rev. Young was born July 5, 1948 in Racine, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Evelyn (McCool) Young. Paul attended the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science Degree. Upon graduation, Paul entered the Army as a Psych Corpsman during the VietNam War. Upon release from the Army, Paul served for several
years in the Army Reserve. In 1982, Paul married Cindy Young in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1984, he felt the call of God to enter the pastoral ministry of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He and Cindy spent four years with Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN where Paul earned his Master of Divinity Degree in 1988. Rev. Young was ordained June 26,1988 in Loganville, Wisconsin. His pastoral ministry spanned more than 30 years as he served the faithful members at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hillpoint, WI; St. John Lutheran
Church, Loganville, WI; St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ashippun, WI; St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sanford, MI; and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Clare, MI. He loved all aspects of church ministry, and when a stroke forced him to step away from the ministry in 2018, he fought very hard to regain his health to continue serving somehow, but that was not in God's plan. Paul and Cindy are blessed with two daughters-Abby Young and Jessy Harrold (husband Mike Harrold) and two grandsons-Gavin and Dexton Harrold. Paul was a voracious reader, missed his home city & state when we moved to this side of the 'pond' in 1999, was a true Green Bay Packer backer (and even owned a share of Packer stock). Before the stroke, Paul loved to attend Loons games, walk and ride his Schwin on the Rail Trail, and burn hamburgers on the grill. A memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church (505 E. Carpenter Street) Midland, MI at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 9, with family greeting guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of
service. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Alpena. Psalm 23:6 says, "Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever." Paul knew God's goodness, love and mercy personally and is now dwelling in the house of the Lord forever free from weakness and pain. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. John Lutheran Church-Midland, the Children's Grief Center-Great Lakes Bay Region, or the donor's favorite charity.

Cindy,

Saw the obituary of your husband on the LCMS website. Was surprised to see the name of his wife. Brought back fond memories of you from my vicarage in Alpena. Hope this gets to you. Blessings to you and may God's comfort be with you.
