Raymond Shangle Obituary

Raymond Shangle
"If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must remember - the most important thing is, even if we're apart, I'll always be with you." - A.A. Milne.
Raymond D. Shangle was born April 29, 1935. He was the oldest of thirteen children of Clifford and Flossie (Wyman) Shangle. Raymond was born in Midland and moved to Estey for his early years in school. He graduated from Pinconning High School and shortly after graduation began working at Dow Chemical Company. He worked in the Stock and Receiving Department until his retirement from Dow. Ray married Betty Haskins in 1957 and they recently celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary. They had two children David Randall Shangle(deceased) and Danene Rachelle Shangle. Danene married Kevin Eidson and they had two children, Stephanie Rae Eidson and Benjamin Ross Eidson. Ray was a wonderful caring husband, dad and grandpa. He loved and constantly demonstrated his love to his family. Nothing was as important or as joyful as the time he spent with them. Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years with his pal, Joe Haskins. In later years he enjoyed golfing with his son, his brother-in-laws (Bob Noyes and Clare Crosby) and his brother, Joe Shangle. One of Ray's favorite pastimes in recent years was his gardening. He and his brother, Larry Shangle, shared gardening tips and produce. If Ray's garden produced well he set a box with cucumbers or tomatoes by the sidewalk for people out for a walk. Ray enjoyed visiting with people he didn't know. He found waiting rooms to be great for that and made time go quickly. Ray was a humble man, he said numerous times how lucky he was to have a nice home,a really good family and how much happiness he had in his lifetime. Ray is survived by his wife Betty, his daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Kevin Eidson, his grandchildren, Stephanie and Ben Eidson, his sisters Sonnie Crosby (Clare) Janice Noyes (Bob) Debbie Rogers (Don Heltebran) Paulette Matt (Joe Scott) Sister-in-laws Joan Shangle, Marilyn Haskins and Martha Haskins and by his brothers Larry Shangle, Joe Shangle (Sherry) Allen Shangle (Joanne) Brother-in-law Donald Jeske. Ray is predeceased by his sisters Eloise(Sissy) Warren, Mary Ellen Jeske, and sister-in-law Linda Shangle, brothers Ernie Shangle, Aaron Shangle (Elaine) Mike Shangle, Brother-in-laws Bill Matt, Jack Haskins and Joe Haskins and Ray's parents Clifford and Flossie Shangle and Mother-in-law Rosa Haskins Carvella. Ray is also survived by thirty-one nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Ray's life will take place in the summer

As a high school friend of Danene´s I spent a lot of time at the Shangle´s home. I remember long conversations with Ray about politics and labor relations and he would tease me about my opposing views (he called me Republican and I called him Democrat). I learned so much from him about looking at things from a different perspective. That really helped me when I worked as a floor supervisor at GM one Summer. He had so many great stories about growing up in Estey and just life in general. He was a funny, kind, and wise man, and I think of him especially when I see pecan logs or turtle candies. My condolences to Betty and Danene. I know you miss him very much.

Ray was one of the first neighbors we met when we moved into the neighborhood so many years ago. He was such a kind man, full of stories and a smile on his face. We´ll always treasure getting to know him while out on a daily walk or chatting on the street or his backyard. Our dog Bandit really took a shine to Ray and would want to stop and say hello whenever we crossed paths. Sadly Bandit passed earlier this month but it´s comforting to know they are crossing paths once again. Our thoughts and prayers are with Betty and her family, so sorry for your loss!

Ray was a friend of mine. He was also a patient of mine. We developed a friendship over the years. I enjoyed this man very much. My favorite (don´t tell my patients this).
