Ronald Wenz
Ronald Lewis Wenz, known affectionately as Ron by those who loved him, lived a vibrant life marked by an unwavering spirit of generosity, a friendly disposition, and an ever-present sense of humor that brightened the lives of all who had the pleasure of his company. Born on May 6, 1943, in Bay City, Michigan. He met Sharon Robinson at Ferris State University, and they were married in Traverse City, MI, on October 2, 1965.
On April 23, 2025, at the age of 81, Ron passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Midland, Michigan, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and inspirational service.
Ron's early life was rooted in Bay City, MI. After graduating from St. Joseph High School in 1961, he pursued higher education with vigor, first at Delta College and then at Ferris State University, where he obtained a B.S. Business Administration degree majoring in Computer Science. This academic pursuit was just the beginning of a life dedicated to learning, growth, and the sharing of knowledge.
Ron began his professional journey as a teacher, shaping young minds in the 5th and 6th grades at St. Anthony's in Fisherville. After two years of teaching, he took a pivotal turn, joining the Dow Chemical Company in the Data Processing Department. His remarkable 32-year tenure at Dow included international assignments in São Paulo, Brazil, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, enriching his life experience and broadening his worldview. Ron's retirement in December 1998 marked the end of one chapter but the beginning of many more adventures.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron dedicated 23 years to the Bay City Officials Association, blowing the whistle on high school basketball courts across Michigan. His leadership shone through as he served as president of the Western Booster Club and engaged in numerous activities with the Auburn Jaycees and the Corn Festival. Ron's commitment to community service was a testament to his belief in the power of giving back and fostering connections.
Ron's interests were as wide-ranging as his talents. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends, especially when they met with friends at the state park in Pentwater, MI, or embarking on excursions with the Jaycee neighbors across the state. His passion for photography led him to create a darkroom where the magic of black and white pictures came to life, capturing moments that would stand the test of time.
In 1999, Ron and his beloved wife Sharon found a new spiritual home in Midland at the Midland Evangelical Free Church. It was there that Ron experienced a profound transformation, embracing his faith with open arms and a heart full of grace. His commitment to his church and community deepened as he joined Bible Study Fellowship, led a marriage ministry, and participated in various other ministries. Ron's spiritual journey fortified his relationships, particularly with his wife and grandchildren, guiding him with a conscience attuned to the Holy Spirit.
Ron's life was one of connections, and he cherished his family deeply. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his lovely wife, Sharon. His legacy lives on through his sister Linda (Richard) Miller; brother John (Mary) Wenz; his three children Lori (Steve) Hoevemeyer, Mark (Kathleen) Wenz, and Michael (Erin) Wenz; his nine grandchildren, Kayla (Chris) Gumowski, Katelynn (Derrick) Moistner, Ashtin (Tyler) Freeman, Mackenzie Wenz, Logan (Kelsey) Wenz, Kelsie Wenz, Bryce (Aubrey) Gandy, Carin Hoevemeyer, and Hayden Wenz; and his nine great-grandchildren, Hudson Freeman, Lydia Gumowski, Milo Escamilla, Lucy Seymour, Avery Freeman, Cole Gumowski, Cora Moistner, Aidan Gumowski, and Liza Wenz. Each is a shining example of the love and wisdom he imparted.
Ron Wenz's story is one of a life well-lived, marked by laughter, service, and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
