Honorable Judge Chris Hollowell, 52, of Paducah, passed away Wednesday night, Oct. 4, 2023, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Chris was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a 1989 graduate of Lone Oak High School. Chris loved all sports connected to the University of Kentucky; St, Louis Cardinal Baseball, fishing with friends and playing golf. Chris was a member of the Rolling Hills Country Club. He attended Loras Catholic College on a football scholarship where he also played on the rugby team. He transferred to the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate work. Graduate work was completed at the Brandeis School of Law.
Chris was a member of the McCracken County Bar Association and Kentucky Bar Association. Judge Hollowell took the District Court Bench in 2007. While a district judge, he presided over tens of thousands of criminal and civil cases including DUI, Traffic, Criminal Misdemeanors, Probate, Small Claims and Juvenile. In addition to his regular District Court duties, he served as a special circuit judge to oversee the McCracken County Drug Court from 2009-2011 where he provided expert leadership and guidance to the Drug Court participants he mentored. He was known for his keen analytical mind, sound judgment, and unwavering administration of justice.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Pruitt Hollowell; two daughters, Hillary Maddox Hollowell and Sophie Pace Hollowell; two step-sons, Wesley Blondell and Mason Blondell; parents, James B. "Nubbins" Hollowell and Priscilla Pace Hollowell; one niece, Madeline Hollowell; and one nephew, Patrick Hollowell, several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Preceding in death was one brother, Dr. Patrick Hollowell; grandparents, William H. Pace and Lottie Pace; James B. Hollowell and Reba Hollowell Lampley; and step-grandfather, Owen Lampley.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Brad Whistle officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Private family burial will take place at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at a later date.
