HICKMAN - Joe Kemp Johnson, 83, of Hickman, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, at the Providence Pointe Nursing and Rehab in Paducah.
He was born in Fulton County on Sept. 6, 1942, the second child of Joe Thomas Johnson and Gladys Will Ella Kemp Johnson. He was a longtime member of Hickman First Baptist Church, where he was an usher and sang in the choir. He was involved in all church activities.
He was an inspector at the former General Tire and Rubber Company for several years, then went on to J. Jerod Associates in Benton. After some time there, he and Jean moved to Hickman and became co-managers for the Hickman Country Club for many years. Joe made many friends there and was very proud of the Club. He was a true-blue, dedicated, and avid UK fan.
He is survived by one daughter, Angela Marie (John) Mayfield of Paducah; three stepchildren, Cynthia Lynne Cartwright of Chicago, Illinois, Jamie Kent (Susan) Dotson, of Kingsport, Tennessee, Julie Ann (Richard) Lindsay of Calvert City; eight grandchildren, Whitney (Jacob) Gentry of Paducah, Ashley (Mike) Spindler of Lone Oak, Brandi (Michael) Atkins of Benton, Zachary (Kaitlin) Lindsay of Benton, Jason (Christina) Newsom of Chicago, Illinois, Joshua (Carrie) Cartwright of Golconda, Illinois, Meagan Dotson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mallory (Dwayne) Desveaux of Ottawa Ontario, Canada; several great grandchildren; and one sister, Dolly Johnson Covington of Hickman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Geneva Jean Gillihan Johnson, whom he married on Aug. 9, 1980; a sister, Barbara Ann Hollingsworth; and one brother, Bobby Eugene Roberts.
Funeral services for Mr. Joe Kemp Johnson of Hickman were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at the First Baptist Church in Hickman. Chip Davis and Tom Quimby officiated. Burial followed in the Hickman City Cemetery.
