David Wilcox Obituary

It is with great sadness that I share my brother David's passing. He had suffered from a series of ailments toward
the end of his life.
David was born in the old Watsonville hospital and spent the first two months in an incubator, weighing only 3lbs 6 oz.
He attended Watsonville High School, where he ran track and cross country. He graduated in 1972.
David spent two years in the Army as a telegraphic specialist stationed in Italy and Korea. After completing his duty to his country he came home to his roots.
He worked 30 years for the Santa Cruz Post Office, first as a letter carrier and then building mechanic, till his
retirement in 2010.
David was a great runner back in the day. He competed in numerous Wharf to Wharf races placing in the top 100. When he ran the the San Francisco Marathon in '83' his finish time qualified him for the Boston Marathon.
David loved to bowl and was in a number of leagues. He bowled the coveted 300 game in 1996.
His many camping adventures with Shannon Purl, long time partner and friend, took him to Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, and Baja California.
David was truly a jack of all trades. After he bought his house in '89' he completed many fine remodels from the kitchen to his redwood deck. His step father Pete is always his patient helper. What an amazing work ethic he had and was always so generous with his time. You could always call on Dave if something needed fixing, as many of his friends can attest to.
He leaves behind his brother John Wilcox, Watsonville; sister( lil' sis as he always called me) Laura (Danny) Johnston, nephews Garrett, Willie, and Ryan Johnston of Scotts Valley. Half sister Kelli Wilcox of Grass Valley, his Uncle Ernie and Aunt Dianne of Santa Cruz. Matt Alley, long time post office friend. Nicky Hughes, of Soquel, who was an amazing friend to my brother. I thank her from the bottom of my heart. His faithful fur buddy Max, and many more family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Novak, step father Peter Novak, and father Kenneth Wilcox.
Big brother you're now free of pain with no more suffering. You will be missed oh, so much…. I love you big brother. Rest in peace until I see you again.
David will be put to rest with our parents, Dorothy and Peter, at Pioneer Cemetery in Watsonville. A celebration of his life is being planned for April 6, 2024.
