Hortencia Andrade Obituary

Hortencia Andrade, a longtime resident of Watsonville, died at home on Aug. 9.

Born in Jose Maria Morelos, Michoacan, Mexico to parents Lucio Trejo and Amalia Ayala, Mrs. Andrade immigrated to the U.S. with her family as a teenager, and was a farmworker for many years until she got married in 1975.

Mrs. Andrade raised her four children while pursuing her GED. She worked for the school district as a parent advocate, and with the Migrant Parent Program where she advocated for migrant families. She also ran a daycare from her home. Mrs. Andrade enjoyed gardening, cooking and taking walks on the beach, and she loved spending time with her husband and children. She was happiest when she was spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Anastacio Andrade, and her children, Hortencia Acosta and Jose, Cindy and Erendira Andrade. She also leaves behind her siblings, Aurora Garcia and Carlos Trejo, as well as six beloved grandchildren.

Services will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on Aug. 21, from 5-10pm. The rosary will be at 7pm. Masks will be required. Due to concerns over the pandemic this will be the only service held.
