Sara Escobar Obituary

Sara G. Escobar died peacefully at her daughter's home in Watsonville on February 2, 2022. She had suffered from dementia, but her death was brought on by cancer.

Sara was a proud grandmother of three, and a source of strength and compassion to her entire family as well as to friends. Born in Sacramento on September 17, 1946, she was the daughter of Robert, a US Army veteran, and Esther G. Garcia. She graduated from Sacramento High School and, after working for a short time at the former McClellan Air Force Base, met her future husband Jesús Herrera Escobar of Michoacán, Mexico, at a dance. They married in 1966 and had three children. Sara chose a career as a homemaker, although as her children grew older, she took on side jobs that expanded her circle of friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband in 1999. Four years later, Sara relocated to Watsonville to be close to her daughter who was expecting her first child and came to love the region.

She is survived by her children and their families: Jesús Escobar and his partner Michael Schreffler of Chicago; Jose-Luis Escobar, his wife Olga, and their son Jose-Luis II of Sacramento; and Marina Escobar-Greatorex, her husband Martin Greatorex, and their children Ximena and Nicolás, all of Watsonville. She is also survived by her siblings Susan, Roberta, Paul, and James.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Hospice of Santa Cruz County and Visiting Angels of Scotts Valley for their exceptional kindness and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift to Hospice of Santa Cruz County. The family will arrange a service and a celebration of Sara's life at later dates. Mehl's Colonial Chapel was entrusted with
the arrangements.
