Cecil E. Meyer

Jacksonburg - Cecil Edward Meyer, 92, a lifelong resident of Jacksonburg, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Rosebud Village, Richmond, where he had resided for the past several months. He was born in Montclair, IN on August 16, 1927 to Charles Edward and Myrtle Marie (Wire) Meyer. Cecil served with the US Navy during WW II. He was a long time employee of Perfect Circle / Dana Corp. He had also been employed at Dougherty's Orchard, Beckers Florist and Culberson Funeral Home. He served as caretaker of Jacksonburg Cemetery for over 50 years and was the unofficial "Mayor" of Jacksonburg. In 2003 he graduated from Hagerstown High School under the Congressional Veteran's Act. He was a member of the first FFA group at Hagerstown High School, was recipient of 2017 Nettle Creek Good Neighbor award and a longtime member of Congregational Christian Church, UCC. Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Nondus (Conway) Meyer; four children, Penny (Wayne) Klusman of Richmond, Linda (Mark) Griffy of Richmond, Julie Meyer Blaase of Hagerstown and Denny (Melody) Meyer of Eaton, OH; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Barbara Parker of Phoenix, AZ and Linda Hansen of Cedarsburg, WI; 2 brothers-in-law, Delbert Sherwood of Dublin and Curtis Andrew of Centerville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 siblings, James Meyer, Robert Meyer, Gene Meyer, Fred Meyer, Mildred Clevenger and Larry Meyer. Visitation will be 1 to 3 PM on Sunday, September 29, at Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Services will follow at 3 PM. Denny Meyer and Pastor Curt Nies will officiate. Burial will be in Jacksonburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or American Legion Post 333 of Hagerstown. Online condolences may be left at www.culbersonfh.com

Dear Julie Abby and Caleb and Chris so very sorry for the loss of your father grandfather and father-in-law I myself do not have any memories of your dad or grandfather other than his work at culberson but I understand from John my husband he was a wonderful man and he cared so much about his family and his community your loss will be Heavens gain at this time I myself am at Rosebud and I am so very sorry I did not know he was here I would've tried to visit him may God bless you at this time of sorrow and may your many wonderful memories of your dad and grandpa and Cecil remind all of us that his spirit still lives on in our hearts.
