Shirley Jean Pitts Motes

Shirley Jean Pitts Motes, 84, of Palatka, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at The Lodge At Stephens Lake in Jasper, Georgia, following an extended illness.
Born in Edgar, Florida, Shirley had resided all her life in Putnam County until moving to Jasper in 2023. She was a member of Francis Baptist Church. Shirley was a homemaker and loved helping her kids and grandkids with raising and showing steers and pigs at the annual county fair. She also loved to hunt in her leisure time.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Walter B. Motes; her parents, Ben and Kathleen Pitts; four siblings, Bobby Pitts, Raymond Pitts, Betty Lewis and Alan Jackson Pitts; two grandchildren, Steven Tenney and Jeffrey Tenney; and two great-grandchildren, Kane Sechler and Kade Sechler.
Shirley is survived by 3 daughters, Judy Rich (Phillip) of Bardin, Stephanie Adkins of Palatka, Theresa Chesney (Stephen) of Jasper, GA; a son, Hank Johnson (Kristie) of Francis; a sister, Annette Hale of Idaho; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Peniel Cemetery with Bro. Buddy Lynch officiating. No public visitation is scheduled.
