Alan G. KONZELMAN

KONZELMAN, Alan G. EIGHT BELLS Chief Engineer Alan G. Konzelman of West Palm Beach passed peacefully away on February 18, 2018. Alan was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Elaine (Service-Gilbert) Konzelman. Alan's 88 years of life began in Paterson, NJ, however he always called Florida home. He was a true mariner and lover of the sea and travel. After graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Acadamy at Kings Point, NY in 1950, he spent six decades on the ocean working up the ranks from Third Assistant to Cheif Engineer qualified on Steam and Motor Vessels of any Horsepower. During this span, he served in the US Navy as Engineeering Officer deployed with the 6th fleet in the Mediterranean Sea, was a Marine surveyor and Analyst and worked on converting freighters to missile tracking ships in the 1960's. Recently, Alan was honored to receive the Gold Mariner Award which was bestowed upon him by the Alumni Association of the USMMA recognizing his 50 plus years of dedication. Alan loved to be involved in the community which was evident by the numerous clubs, organizations and groups of which he was a member. He could be found teaching kids how to properly rig a Ballyhoo on kids fishing day, at your local polling place as Deputy or perhaps at the neighborhood Duffy's recounting stories of his 100th trip through the Panama Canal or telling his favorite tale of witnessing the demise of the Hindenburg on his eighth birthday. Alan will truly be missed by his family and multitude of friends. His life will be celebrated on April 13, 2018 at North Palm Beach Golf and Country Club at 1:00PM.
