Family-Placed Funeral Notice

ARTHUR CARY HEUBLEIN Resident of Jupiter, Florida passed away at his summer home in Stonington, Connecticut on June 28, 2004. Arthur was born in Hartford, Connecticut. His family were early pioneers of that city in real estate and industry. Heublein Inc. manufactured, imported and marketed name brands for consumption. At an early age Arthur joined the family company and was immediately involved in the production of Grey Poupon Mustard and A1 Steak Sauce. He later became Brand Manager of Smirnoff Vodka and Club Cocktails and then he became the South East Regional Director of the company. Arthur's father, Gilbert Whipple Heublein and Grandfather, Arthur Carl Heublein had earlier chosen medicine and radiology. Arthur attended Kingswood School in West Hartford, Connecticut, graduated from the Pomfret School in Pomfret, Connecticut; going on to Middlebury College and then Harvard Business School. An avid mariner Arthur designed and developed the Cruiser “Watch Hill 32”. He was a member of the Watch Hill Yacht Club, the Manalapan Yacht Club and a life long member of the Mystic Seaport. He leaves his wife Priscilla, son Gilbert of Farmington, CT; daughter Irene and her husband John Shelton of Natick, MA; son Andrew and his wife Heidi of Mystic, CT; as well as step children Nina and Carlo Pucillo of Jupiter, FL, a sister Louise Heublein McCagg of New York City and Stonington, CT; a half sister, Candace Heublein of Canton, CT; a half brother, Bruce Heublein of Monroe, Maine; step sister Carlin Whitney Scherer of Bondville, VT; two granddaughters, Gretchen Eddy Heublein and Sophie Erdman Heublein of Mystic, CT, step grandchildren, Tim and Caitlin McCoy also of Mystic, CT, as well as nieces Alexandra McCagg and her husband Jeffrey Jones, and Dorothy McCagg and her husband Carl Querfurth; Arthur was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Duncan Whitney, his father Gilbert Whipple Heublein, and a step brother Howard F. Whitney III. There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private. The family respectfully requests that contributions in Arthur's memory be made to: Hospice of Southeastern CT, PO Box 902, Uncasville, CT 06382 or to Mystic Seaport, PO Box 6000, Mystic, CT 06355. Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic, is in charge of arrangements.

I met Arthur shortly after being hired by Heublein. During my relationship with him, i found him to a very nice person. I was particularly impressed with his down to earth everyday manner. He was just one of the "boys" My sympathy goes out to his family at this time.
