Dee graduated from Beaver (currently Arcadia) College in 1944 and completed graduate studies at Columbia University. She was a dedicated teacher who taught Home Economics for nearly 30 years at Staples High School in Westport, CT. She is survived by daughter-in-law Ardy Wolynec of Rutland, VT as well as three grandchildren - Greg Wolynec (Lisa) of Clarksville, TN, Scott Wolynec (Gretchen) of Apex, NC and four great-granddaughters - Ashley, Kaitlyn, Taylor, and Addison Wolynec of Apex, NC. She was predeceased by stepson Jim Wolynec and stepdaughter Gale W. Whitemore.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Wolynec was my home ec teacher for all my years at Staples High School. This is 1961 - 1964! She taught us not just Home Ec but she taught us about life. While we were sewing or cooking, she got us talking about how we would handle different aspects of life we may come across. Then she would point out something we had not thought about.
She was, by far, my favorite teacher and the one I learned the most from. I kept in touch with her all through the years and even visited with her in Vermont when she summered there. I can say that I really loved her. She taught me how to be an adult and how to think. I will always be grateful to her for that.

To the family of Mrs. Wolynec...........
I didn't know she had died until the Christmas card I sent her had been returned a couple days ago. I had written her a long letter this year telling her how much she meant to me. I am one of her former students at Staples High School and took one of her classes every year I was there. We kept up a correspondence at Christmas with one or two visits when she came to Vermont for 56 years. Some of what I wrote to her follows. I'd like you all to know what her students thought of her.
I wrote,"You have always been a mentor to me.Your classes weren't necessarily just about sewing and cooking. They were about life.I remember the discussions we all had and how we all voiced our expectations of life. I remember saying I just wanted to be a wife and mother. Didn't want a career, etc. How naive I was! And how differently my life turned out. But one of the things you helped me realize was that I could do and be whatever I wanted to be. The military and my parents helped with that too. As a result, I've never seen things as impossible, just a little more difficult which might take a little longer to fix. I think I've successfully passed that on to my kids, especially my son who can be tenacious to a fault. So thank you for that. You certainly made a difference in my life.
Thank you for letting me share this with you. She was an extraordinary woman and I loved her.
