Family-Placed Funeral Notice

BENJAMIN SHIBE MACFARLAND JR. Passed away peacefully in his sleep early Friday morning October 15, 2004. He was born on April 18, 1946 to Benjamin S. Macfarland and Jane (Bunting) Macfarland. He was born into the founding family and operators of the Philadelphia Athletics and Shibe Park. As a young man he attended Trinity-Pawling Prep and Coe College. It was in these years he began spending springs with the ball club in Palm Beach for spring training and became a permanent resident in 1965. He was an avid supporter of his sons' youth sports and activities and also a proud father of 2 Eagle Scouts. He had a true love for the Florida sun, boating, backgammon, and the old Coral Beach Club. He is survived by his wife Mary Casalino Macfarland; his sons Benjamin Shibe Macfarland III and Russell Austin Shibe Macfarland; his step- mother, Ailene Macfarland Price. His sisters Sheila Conner (Jerry Carow), Jill Miller (Phil), Mary Hicks (Sam) and their Families. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday October 19, 2004 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida 33401. The Noon Mass on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 310 North Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach 33401 will be celebrated in his memory. In Lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to St. Ann School Booster Club, West Palm Beach, Florida or the St. Andrew School Alumni Foundation, Boca Raton, Florida.
