Dave passed away August 18th 2016 in Palm Beach Gardens. Dave moved to Florida 30 years ago and loved the sun and the sand. He was an outdoorsman who demonstrated a love of the environment. Dave could be found almost everyday at Ocean Cay Park in Jupiter, where he would be playing beach volleyball, reading the latest issue of Outdoor Magazine or taking advantage of Florida's beautiful beaches. Although he did not make it out there as much has he would have liked, Dave also had a love for the mountains and skiing. Dave will be remembered for his loving nature, his truly beautiful soul and his willingness to lend a helping hand to both strangers and friends. Dave was an important member of the South Florida volleyball community and was known for his un-gettable cut shot. Dave is survived by his mother, Marilyn Eckerman, his father Gene Hettrick, his brother and sister in law, Jim and Cathy Hettrick and his nephew Daniel Hettrick, all living in Iowa. Dave was preceded in death by his sister, Linda. Even though he did not have any blood relatives in Florida, he had many friends that considered him an extension of their own family. Unfortunately, there will not be an official service in South Florida, however, his Florida friends and surrogate family will be hosting a memorial service in the near future at Ocean Cay Park, his 2nd home . In lieu of flowers, we will be collecting donations to be made in his name to the World Wildlife Foundation.
