David PECK Obituary

PECK, David Ford David Ford Peck passed away at his home in Dayton, Ohio on January 26, 2018, after several months of hospitalization due to heart surgery, a stroke and congestive heart failure. He was 3 weeks from his 90th birthday at the time of his passing. David was the younger son of Warner A. Peck, Sr., a sales manager with Republic Steel Corporation, and Gertrude Rothwell Peck, a homemaker. His brother (Warner Jr.) and his sister (Fineta) are both deceased. David is survived by his wife, Virginia Conklin Peck; five children, William F. (Anne) Peck, David T. (Jane) Peck, Sally S. Peck, D. Ford Peck, Jr., and Myron A. (Nadine) Peck; four step sons, John J. (Eve) Cot?, James C. Cot?, Daniel B.C. (Sherrard) Cot?, and Thomas B. Cot?; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. David was born in Cleveland on February 19, 1928. His family moved to Glendale, a suburb of Cincinnati, in 1933. He attended Congress Avenue Grade School and later graduated from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati. David enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1946 and served in the 88th Blue Devil Division in the Army of Occupation in Italy. He graduated from the non-commissioned officer school on Lido Island, near Venice. Upon returning home, he attended Williams College, later graduating from the University of Cincinnati. He married Aileen Wood of Piqua, Ohio in April of 1955 in Aiken, South Carolina, and worked as the National Sales Manager for Wood Shovel and Tool Company in Piqua for 10 years. After a brief period working for Bissell in Grand Rapids, he returned to be with the love of his life...Virginia. They were married in Dayton in February of 1966 and enjoyed nearly 52 years together. David worked in Dayton for more than 35 years as an Investment Advisor with W.E. Hutton, Thompson McKinnon, and Prudential Financial. He ended his successful career in the private client group of Merrill Lynch. David was a former President of the Board of The Miami Valley School and the former Treasurer and Junior and Senior Warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Dayton. He was an active member of Moraine Country Club and former President of the Dayton Polo Club. After retiring at age 75, he and Virginia spent nearly 15 years dividing their time between Florida (St. Andrews Club in Delray Beach and Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach) and northern Michigan (Northport Point Club). He spent more than 50 summers at Northport Point, Michigan, serving as a former President of the Cottage Owners Association. David played football, co-captained the basketball team and pitched on the baseball team - the only boy of his era to compete in all three sports at Walnut Hills. He never lost his love of athletics and competed in numerous amateur golf, platform tennis and tennis tournaments. He immensely enjoyed sailing on the waters of Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan. His friends and family are left with memories of a truly gentle and kind soul, full of warm words and endless humor. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 W Dixon Ave., Oakwood, OH. Family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, family members request that donations be sent to Atwill Memorial Chapel Association, 105 N. Northcott Dr., Northport, MI, 49670. A private service and internment will be held this summer at Northport Point, a place that was very near and dear to him. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting (www.routsong.com).
