Deborah SHACKLEY Obituary

SHACKLEY, Deborah A.
Affectionately known as "Debbie" to family and friends, age 39, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. She was born May 23, 1976, in West Palm Beach, FL.

Debbie graduated from Florida State University in 1998. In August of 2013, Debbie joined John I. Leonard High School as the Fashion Design Instructor where she found her true calling. Debbie made her first imprint with her annual fashion show. She embraced FCCLA (Family Career & Community Leaders of America), the student organization for Family & Consumer Sciences students. During her first year of teaching Fashion Design in Lancer Country, she reinstated the chapter, having students compete at both the state and national levels. Debbie has taken her students to San Antonio and Washington, D.C., bringing home the Gold and Silver to her school. She accepted the role of Co-District Advisor, a position she has held for the past two years. Debbie took great pride in using all her resources to teach her students in and out of the classroom by building their confidence and helping them develop as individuals. On February 23, 2016 Debbie received the CTE (Career and Technical Education) High School Teacher of the Year award. Her strong bold laugh, beautiful smile and charming wit will be deeply missed by her John I. Leonard family.

Debbie is survived by her beloved parents, Brooks and Joyce Shackley, her paternal grandmother, Opal Shackley, maternal grandparents, Milton and Jeannine Wickles, Sr., sister, Deanna Shackley and brother, David Shackley (Mary "Mimi"), her adoring nephews Jeffrey "Jeff" and Kyle and niece Alexis "Ali" Fuller (Jonathan "Jon"), and her loving maternal Aunt, Louise Wickles. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Robert Shackley, Sr. Debbie will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

The family will receive friends at 1pm on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center located at 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33417 for a Celebration of Life service.

Memorial donations in Debbie's name may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County or HOC (Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper).

Hello, my name is Amber Renny. I am a freelance Sign Language Interpreter who has worked quite a bit at JIL High School. I knew Debbie from interpreting her class last year and we even hung out a few times outside of school (getting manis/pedis). I wanted to just say that although I didn't get to know her as well as I was hoping I would, I was greatly moved by her and her impact on our students. I was able to briefly stop by the services today but did not want to bother any of you in such a busy and difficult time. I deeply, deeply hope this will not be in any way offensive to your family, or that I am overstepping my place in any way, but I am hosting a "21 Day Kindness Challenge" (KindSpring.org) in Debbie's name and honor. I just could not bear to not contribute some small act in remembering her and what I felt she stood for. I will place the link below to the kindness challenge, in which I have asked some of the JIL staff to also join me. I have also asked these staff to pass along this information to anyone else wanting to join us. My heart is with you all during this incredibly painful time. If there is ever anything I can do, please feel free to contact me.

Ms. Shackley was a teacher at my school, she was there when my friends and I graduated, went to prom, and survived senior year in high school in 2015. She helped us with everything. She was my favorite person at John I Leonard. She was and still is a Beautiful Soul and she will be loved and missed by all who was blessed to be in her presence. She was a funny, nice, and overall amazing person. I am so sorry for her families loss and my prayers go out to you. Heaven received a beautiful angel. May she rest in peace and love.
