Knox Theological Seminary was founded in 1989 by Dr. D. James Kennedy under the guidance of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. It is the fulfillment of their vision – to rekindle a reformation in our own time and take the transforming truth of Jesus Christ to the world.

In 2008, under the leadership of President Emeritus Dr. Ronald Kovack, Knox introduced fully-accredited online degree programs to complement their traditional residential offerings. The move to provide quality online education, without ever sacrificing academic integrity, has allowed Knox to meet students where God has called them and train church leaders around the world. In 2013, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church established Knox as an independent, 501(c)(3) corporation, maintaining the historical connection to the legacy of Dr. Kennedy’s vision, while allowing Knox to operate as an independent organization.

AFFILIATION
Knox Theological Seminary is an independent evangelical seminary within the Reformed tradition and home to students from a broad range of denominational backgrounds.

ACCREDITATION
Knox Theological Seminary is Accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada, and the following degree programs are approved: Master of Divinity, MA (Christian and Classical Studies), MA (Biblical and Theological Studies), and the Doctor of Ministry.

By the time he was 30, John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, had accumulated a shelf-full of regional and national awards for his TV and radio ads, as well as for sound design for films.

But success didn’t satisfy him.

At the suggestion of a friend, John started attending Christ Community Church in Omaha where Dr. Tom Stebbins took him through the Evangelism Explosion Gospel presentation and led him to Christ. John had married his wife Ann by that time and she also accepted Christ. John says that today, “Ann is one of the best trainers in EE that he knows.”

John was immediately drawn to seeing others come to Christ. He became a trainer and teacher-trainer in EE, joining the staff in 1997. John served first as Director of Marketing, then Vice President of Ministry Advancement, soon becoming Executive Vice-President before ultimately being appointed President in 2008. The office of President was held previously only by EE’s founder, Dr. D. James Kennedy.

John is quick to say, “My goal, by God’s grace, is to continue the mission for which this great ministry was founded until Christ calls me home.”

The impact of Evangelism Explosion is the story of millions of Christians who’ve been trained to share Christ since its founding in 1962 and is now a training used in every nation on earth. In 2014, EEI reported nearly 8-million people who made a profession of faith in Jesus.

John Sorensen is the author of Well Done: A Christian Doctrine of Works, written in collaboration with Dr. D. James Kennedy. His most recent book, Your Story Counts: Sharing the Most Important Story of Your Life, is a guide for how Christians can use the story of how God encourages, changes, and transforms lives as a compelling tool to reach others with the Gospel. John received a Master of Arts in Evangelism and Doctor of Divinity from Knox Theological Seminary as well

Dr. Frank Wright, Ph.D.
President & CEO
image
For many years, Dr. Frank Wright was a protégée of Dr. D. James Kennedy. When the D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship was established in Washington, D.C., Frank was Dr. Kennedys choice to head it up. When we gathered with friends and partners to cast a vision for the next 40 years of ministry in 2014, Frank graciously served as our keynote speaker.

And now Dr. Wright has come home to D. James Kennedy Ministries.

After establishing the Center for Christian Statesmanship as a vital force for evangelism and the Biblical worldview on Capitol Hill, serving for over a decade as the President and CEO of the National Religious Broadcasters, and acting as the President and COO of Salem Communications Corporation, Frank Wright joined D. James Kennedy Ministries as our President and CEO on April 15, 2015.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt, God has led Dr. Wright and our ministry to this partnership for such a time as this, says Jim Carlson, Chairman of the Board, who has been part of the ministry since the very beginning alongside Dr. Kennedy over 40 years ago. Along with Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy and the entire Board of Directors, I look forward to what we will accomplish together for the Kingdom of God under Franks leadership, bold vision, and proven experience.

Dr. Wright holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Florida Atlantic University and is an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Throughout the years, he has been very vocal about Dr. Kennedys direct impact on him and his ministry, and their shared vision and worldview makes Dr. Wright the ideal person to continue D. James Kennedy Ministries push toward the future.

As Jim Carlson has put it, Beyond Dr. Wrights professional expertise, he is a decades long friend and student of the late Dr. Kennedy and he shares an incredible understanding of Dr. Kennedys Biblical perspective, his commitment to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and this ministrys Cultural Mandate.

Dr. Wright has said, [Dr. Kennedys] moral leadership and his legacy of impacting the globe for Jesus Christ is matched by few in the history of the Church. It is our desire to honor him by sustaining and multiplying his impact.

The passion of D. James Kennedy was to bring the light of Jesus Christ into the lives of people everywhere. Men and women on every continent and in every nation have heard and answered the call of the Gospel because of Kennedy's faithfulness to the vision God gave him to reach the world for Jesus Christ.

Kennedy strongly believed that the Christian should not only be involved in spiritual matters but should also be active and knowledgeable as citizens in our neighborhoods, cities, and nation. Consequently, Kennedy was well known in both the church and political realm. He became the most listened to Presbyterian minister in the world and was also recognized as one of the leading Christian statesmen of his day.

The Memory Of The Heart

Thanksgiving will soon be upon us, and it's the perfect time for evaluatinghow often we offer thanks to God. Thanksgiving is the memory of the heart, the way we show God that we know Who takes care of us every day of the year.

How are you doing in the gratitude department? Have you counted yourblessings lately and thanked God for each one?

In Luke 17, we read of ten lepers whom Jesus healed. Despite thistremendous miracle in their lives, only one leper returned to thank Jesus. Thisstory shows how even the most spiritual people often forget to thank God. We cansee from the story that the lepers were praying men. They cried out,Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. They asked the Lord to help them. The tenlepers were also obedient men. When Jesus told them to show themselves tothe priest to prove that they were clean, they didn't say, We can't go.Look at us. We have no fingers or toes. We need to talk about this. Instead, they went immediately. Also they were believing men, otherwise theywouldn't have obeyed Jesus' command. Jesus hadn't healed them yet, butthey believed in Him enough to do whatever He said, knowing He would comethrough for them.

Yet despite their obvious spirituality, only one of them returnedto thank the Lord. Jesus was shocked by their ingratitude. When the one leperthanked Him, He didn't say, It was nothing. Forget it. You don't have tothank me. Instead, He said, Where are the other nine? Were not ten lepers cleansed? The lepers were praying men, obeying men, and believing menbutthey weren't thankful men. Their faith was incomplete because they didn'tpraise God. Jesus healed them, but they didn't receive the full blessing whichthe tenth leper received. After all, Jesus told him, Your faith has made youwhole.

There once was a man who praised God so much that people called himHallelujah Smith. We should all strive to earn that same first name. TheBible says God works all things for our good. Therefore, in every situation, letus give thanks, especially on Thanksgiving.

Today, think of something you haven't thanked God for yet, then lift upa prayer of thanksgiving. And this year, make Thanksgiving a real memory ofthe heart.

13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Dr. D. James Kennedy: A man for the ages

FacebookTwitterGoogle+
By Robert Meyer

Last week in the mail, I received a letter from Brian Fisher, the executive vice-president of Coral Ridge Ministries. The letter stated that Dr. D. James Kennedy, one of the Christian stalwarts of our times, had retired from his pastorate at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dr. Kennedy had a heart attack last December, and complications from that condition have diminished his mental and physical faculties to the point where he would not be able to resume his duties.

Now as I write this piece, I have just received word that Dr. Kennedy has passed away. It is with a heavy heart and a bit of shock that I continue this piece, but I began this venture with the intention of honoring Dr. Kennedy — and so I shall.

We knew for some time that Dr. Kennedy was in a seriously debilitated condition, so we had some time to absorb this shock, yet time alone is never enough.

Rather than give a biography of Dr. Kennedy, I would rather discuss his accomplishments, and how his ministry has impacted my own life.

I'm not sure when I first heard of Dr. Kennedy, but I do vividly remember that I first saw his T.V. program early in 1999. At that time he was urging those in his audience to be vigilant about the Y2K phenomenon, that they should regard it as more than just another periodic scare. Before his name became familiar to me, I referred to him as the Y2K guy when discussing his broadcast with my wife. Before long, it became the favorite religious program of the several we watched on a regular basis.

My wife and I had attended a reformed church, and the thing I liked right off the bat about Kennedy, was that his sermons were relevant in addressing the current cultural issues. He exemplified the reformed tradition, that Christ is Lord over all of life. Besides the elaborate and beautiful arrangements of traditional hymns, and his timely motivating sermons, the program always made an evangelical appeal to the lost, and presented a documentary about some vital cultural issue.

Dr. Kennedy often received letters from his viewing audience, containing personal testimonials and notes thanking him for his tireless efforts for the kingdom of God. I never wrote Dr. Kennedy personally, and now wish I had. But, I still want to share how he impacted my life.

After one sermon shortly after I began watching his show, Dr. Kennedy said to his viewing audience: "Some of you need to run for public office; some of you need to write letters to the editor." It was as if Kennedy was speaking to me personally. I certainly took him that way. I decided I would try both. I have to admit the political angle didn't turn out as expected, but the writing aspect did bloom into a passion. In fact Dr. Kennedy had a large hand in the fact that you are reading this piece about him today. In my late teens I had a burning desire to move ahead with the things of God, but over time I lost this youthful zeal. I spent most of my 20's and 30's sitting on my hands, but Kennedy helped renew my life with that conviction and zeal.

Kennedy's influences extended well beyond his own sermons and the auxiliary ministries that grew out of his initial calling. Kennedy introduced us to so many other influential Christians through the books and audio/visual materials he endorsed. His documentary segments inspired us to look into certain issues more closely.

What I liked best about Dr. Kennedy was his strong emphasis on the cultural mandate, and the need for the Christian worldview to be a bridge spanning our entire social milieu. While many today bemoan Christian involvement in the public square, Kennedy taught that social and political activism are the Christian's inherent duty.

Too many influential personalities today, are urging people to compartmentalize between their spiritual and social lives. All that has brought about a culture increasingly hostile to Christianity and apathetic toward the very things bringing great harm to society. Kennedy was a watchman on the wall, ever vigilant, sounding the clarion call, warning us against these dangerous trends.

It is reasonable for us to ponder the question of who will (or can) replace the small handful of committed visionaries, that by God's grace, are given to us sparingly in each generation. Over the past five years we have lost such Christian luminaries as Henry Morris, Carl Henry, Adrian Rogers, Jerry Falwell and Billy Bright. Add to that list an ailing Billy Graham, other aging evangelicals, and now Dr. Kennedy. It is easy for the evangelical community to ask who will lead us now, who will replace these fallen stalwarts?

Remember what Jesus said to the religious self-righteous of his day, when they complained about the people who praised and worshiped him. He said that God could raise up the very stones and cause them to worship. God will call new believers to meet the growing challenges of the day. As for Dr. Kennedy, he already had appointed faithful believers to carry on with his vision.

I will miss Dr. Kennedy dearly, yet I will continue to be inspired by his fine example and strong convictions.

A statement from Rev. Billy Graham was also read: “He was a bold proclaimer of the Gospel and a strengthening of moral and spiritual values in the American life.”

Rev. John Sorenson, Executive Vice-President of Evangelism Explosion International, declared: “He practiced what he preached, he loved sharing the Gospel of Christ with people.”

Rev. Mark Creech declared: “No one in our time has probably understood with greater depth, conveyed with greater passion, or equipped the church with greater skill, to fulfill its two-fold mission – the Cultural Mandate (that Christians are to bring God's truth to bear upon every area of human society) and The Great Commission – than Dr. Kennedy.”

Frank Wright, President of the National Religious Broadcasters, paid tribute to Dr Kennedy's preaching “The full counsel of God.”

Allan Chambers, President of Exodus International said: “Dr Kennedy's strong stand on social and moral issues elevated and compelled public debate. He was an unwavering defender of the Faith, a passionate advocate for truth, a visionary committed to advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a good friend.”

Wendy Wright, of Concerned Women for America, declared: “We honour his legacy of faithfulness to Christ and commitment to fulfilling the Great Commission.”

Rev. Ronald Siegenthaler, CRPC Executive Minister, pledged: “We will worship the Saviour he faithfully served for so many years, and we will exalt the Gospel of free grace through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ – a message which he proclaimed from this pulpit and to the nations of the world.”

In the keynote message, Dr James Dobson, Founder and Chairman of Focus on the Family, declared: “We have a wonderful heritage in the Christian Faith, but we lost one of the best of these men of Faith last week. When a great oak tree falls, many of us lesser creatures lose a place of shelter and security in its branches. It causes me to wonder, who will be there to carry the banner when this general of leaders is gone? I pray that the Lord will anoint another generation of Jim Kennedys - courageous men and women who will never waver one inch in the defence of righteousness. May God help the younger generation carry on the work that D. James Kennedy did so ably for more than half a century.”

The body of Dr Kennedy was laid to rest Friday 14 September at a private internment ceremony.

Just and true are Your ways,

Dr. Michael Milton Named President of D. James Kennedy Institute
Theologian, author and singer/songwriter Dr. Michael Milton has been named President and Sr. Fellow of the newly founded D. James Kennedy Institute for Christianity and Culture (DJK Institute), established in honor of the beloved pastor and teacher, who taught the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world, reports McCain & Co. Public Relations.

The announcement was made by Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy, daughter of the late Dr. D. James Kennedy, at the launch of the second edition of Dr. Milton's book, Silent No More, at the Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The vision of the DJK Institute is to continue the Christ-centered legacy of Dr. D. James Kennedy by declaring the biblical message of Jesus Christ and providing evangelistic outreach through popular and scholarly works in books, music, and missions. In addition to the ministry of evangelism and education, the DJK Institute will also serve as a "think tank" for faith and culture and will provide scholarships to support a new generation of pastors.

Dr. Milton, the former Chancellor/CEO of Reformed Theological Seminary, is the founder and current president and CEO of Faith for Living, Inc. Dr. Milton, a Presbyterian minister (PCA) was in the first graduating class of Knox Theological Seminary, which was founded by Dr. D. James Kennedy. Dr. Milton was the first recipient of the annual preaching prize at Knox, and also the prize in systematic theology. He also was the first Knox Seminary pastoral intern and assistant to Dr. D. James Kennedy.

"The Institute is literally a dream come true," Milton says. "I dreamed that the legacy of my late, great mentor, Dr. Kennedy, needed to be continued. When I awoke, I began writing down my vision for an institute that would be not only a 'think tank' for faith and culture, but a fellows program to help perpetuate the optimistic Kingdom-minded vision of D. James Kennedy in the lives and ministries of future pastors. I brought this dream to Mrs. Kennedy and his daughter, Jennifer. Together we dedicated it to the Lord in prayer."

"I am so honored that the Kennedy family has asked me to lead the D. James Kennedy Institute, and I am delighted to now share this vision with others," Milton continues.

The announcement follows news in September from Truth In Action Ministries that Dr. Milton has been tapped as teaching pastor of Truth That Transforms with Dr. Michael Milton, a television ministry which launched in 1974 as The Coral Ridge Hour with Dr. D. James Kennedy.

The television ministry, which reached a peak audience of 3 million viewers in 200 countries during its tenure, has continued with Dr. Kennedy's messages since he passed away in 2007.

Truth That Transforms with Dr. Michael Milton airs at 9 p.m. C.T. Sundays on the NRB Network, immediately following Kennedy Classics, featuring the sermons of Dr. D. James Kennedy. Kennedy Classics also airs on The Church Channel on Sundays at 9 a.m. C.T. Both shows are hosted by Dr. Jerry Newcombe and Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy.

Truth in Action Ministries, which changed its name in 2011 from Coral Ridge Ministries, was founded by Dr. D. James Kennedy, the founder of Evangelism Explosion International, Knox Theological Seminary, Coral Ridge Ministries and Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

About Dr. Michael Milton:

Dr. Michael Milton is the founder and current President and CEO of Faith for Living, Inc. and the teaching pastor of the Truth That Transforms with Dr. Michael Milton TV program on the NRB Network. Formerly the Chancellor and CEO of Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), Milton is an ordained Presbyterian (PCA) pastor as well as a professor. Milton earned his Ph.D. in theology from The University of Wales and holds multiple degrees from such respected institutions as Knox Theological Seminary and MidAmerica Nazarene University, and is a graduate of historic national defense institutions such as the Eisenhower Command and General Staff College and the Defense Language Institute. Milton's unique, and yet pastoral, insights and commentaries on faith and culture have been warmly received, as his columns have appeared in newspapers and publications across the nation and around the world.

The multi-talented pastor, author and musician has received rave reviews for his current CD, Through the Open Door. Christianitytoday.com, who has compared Milton to Neil Young, Steve Curtis Chapman and Dan Fogelberg, calls the music, "musically opulent and emotionally stirring."

Milton has released four CDs, 16 books and writes for numerous popular and scholarly periodicals. He is a faculty member of Intercollegiate Studies Institute and a contributing writer for The Center for Vision and Values. He was appointed to the College of Military Preachers, serves as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserve and is an instructor at the Armed Forces Chaplain School. But anyone who has listened to his music can attest that "stuffy" is not a word that is found in his vocabulary. Much like his friend and sometimes musical collaborator, legendary Christian singer/songwriter Michael Card ("El Shaddai"), Milton has an uncanny ability to unpack complex theological concepts into everyday language that makes them both memorable and accessible.

Milton's current book releases include Silent No More from Tanglewood Publishing in the U.S. and Evangelical Press in the U.K., Songs in the Night: How God Transforms Our Pain to Praise from P&R Publishing Co., and the third edition of What God Starts, God Completes: Help and Hope for Hurting People by Christian Focus Publications.

“Now, I know that someday I am going to come to what some people will say is the end of this life. They will probably put me in a box and roll me right down here in front of the church, and some people will gather around, and a few people will cry. But I have told them not to do that because I don't want them to cry. I want them to begin the service with the Doxology and end with the Hallelujah chorus, because I am not going to be there, and I am not going to be dead. I will be more alive than I have ever been in my life, and I will be looking down upon you poor people who are still in the land of dying and have not yet joined me in the land of the living. And I will be alive forevermore, in greater health and vitality and joy than ever, ever, I or anyone has known before.” D. James Kennedy

Who is D. James Kennedy?

D. James Kennedy (1930 –2007) was an American pastor, evangelist, and Christian broadcaster. He founded the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was senior pastor from 1960 until his death in 2007.

Kennedy also founded Evangelism Explosion International, Coral Ridge Ministries, the Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, the Knox Theological Seminary, and the Center for Reclaiming America for Christ, a socially conservative political group.

In 1974, he began Coral Ridge Ministries, which produced his weekly religious television program, The Coral Ridge Hour, carried on various networks and syndicated on numerous other stations with a peak audience of three million viewers in 200 countries.

The Coral Ridge Hour continues to air widely as does the daily radio program, Truths That Transform, which airs on radio stations in the United States. Current and archived versions of both programs are available on the Coral Ridge Ministries website. During his lifetime, Coral Ridge Ministries grew to a US$37-million-a-year non-profit corporation with an audience of 3.5 million.

In 2006, the National Religious Broadcasters association inducted Kennedy into its Hall of Fame. As a result of a heart attack from which he never fully recovered, Kennedy last preached at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church later that year, on December 24, 2006. His retirement was officially announced at the church on August 26, 2007, and he died in his home ten days later.

Personal information and career

D. James Kennedy was born in Augusta, Georgia, and moved with his parents to Chicago, Illinois, during his childhood. His father was a glass salesman, and his parents were Methodists. Kennedy joined the Boy Scouts. He later moved with his family to Tampa, Florida, where in 1948 he graduated from Henry B. Plant High School and began studying English at the University of Tampa.

After two years he dropped out of college, began working as a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Tampa, and later won a first prize in a nationwide dance contest. On August 25, 1956, he married Anne Lewis, whom he had met while giving her dance lessons at Arthur Murray. They had one daughter, Jennifer, born in 1962.

Education

Kennedy became a Christian in 1953 after hearing a radio preacher present the Gospel, which Kennedy later said he had never heard up to that point. In December 1955, Kennedy decided to quit his Arthur Murray job to enter the ministry. He resumed his studies at the University of Tampa (graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1958) and began preaching at the small Bethel Presbyterian Church in nearby Clearwater, Florida.

The following year, Kennedy entered Columbia Theological Seminary, receiving a Master of Divinity degree.[3] After his ordination in 1959, Kennedy became the pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, where he remained until his death. In the 1970s he earned a Master of Theology summa cum laude from the Chicago Graduate School of Theology, and in 1979 a doctorate in religious education from New York University.

His doctoral dissertation was on the history of an evangelism program he founded. Kennedy said that he earned a Ph D. "to dispel the idea there is an inconsistency between evangelism and education...evangelical ministers [need] to be thoroughly educated and equipped to meet on equal terms anyone with whom they come in contact".

Ministry and theology

Initially ordained in 1959 by the Presbyterian Church in the United States, Kennedy later became an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America, after he and his church left the PCUS in 1978. Espousing a traditional Calvinist theology, Kennedy's theological works include Why I Believe, What If Jesus Had Never Been Born, Skeptics Answered, and Truths That Transform. In 1971, he founded the Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale and, in 1989, Knox Theological Seminary.

Kennedy was a conservative evangelical minister who was often involved in political activities within the Christian right. He wrote What if America Were a Christian Nation Again? and frequently preached messages arguing that the United States was founded as a Christian nation. Kennedy started the Center for Christian Statesmanship, an evangelical ministry on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The Center, closed in 2007 by Coral Ridge Ministries but quickly reopened under the auspices of Evangelism Explosion International, awards a "Distinguished Christian Statesman Award" annually to high profile Christian political leaders. Award recipients include Tom DeLay, Sam Brownback, and John Ashcroft. He was called by critics a leader of the Dominionism movement.

Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida

Kennedy founded the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1960. Beginning with 45 persons attending a typical Sunday service, it became the fastest-growing Presbyterian church in the U.S. in the 1960s and had 1,366 members by 1968. Kennedy developed the Evangelism Explosion ("EE") method of evangelism in the 1960s, which emphasizes the training of church laypeople to share their faith by home visitation in the community.

In 1978, Kennedy began the weekly Coral Ridge Hour on national television, which at its peak had a weekly audience of three million viewers in 200 countries and was aired on more than 400 stations and four cable networks, including the Trinity Broadcasting Network, The Inspiration Network (INSP) and the NRB Network, as well as broadcast to more than 150 countries on the Armed Forces Network. By the 1980s, the church's membership had grown to almost 10,000 persons. As of 2009, the church has 2,200 members and weekly attendance averages 1,800 persons.

Retirement and death

On the evening of December 28, 2006, Kennedy experienced prolonged ventricular tachycardia at his Ft. Lauderdale home, leading to cardiac arrest which deprived his brain of adequate oxygen for six to eight minutes. As a result, he sustained a loss of short-term memory and speech impairment. Despite several months of rehabilitation and convalescence, he was unable to resume preaching and his retirement was announced on Sunday, August 26, 2007, at the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church by his daughter, Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy.

In a statement following news of Kennedy's retirement, the church announced the development of the D. James Kennedy Legacy website in tribute to the life of the Christian evangelist.

Kennedy died in his sleep at home in the early morning hours of September 5, 2007. The White House issued a statement the following day, saying that U.S. President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush were "deeply saddened" by Kennedy's death, calling the Florida-based televangelist and author "a man of great vision, faith, and integrity ... Dr. Kennedy's message of love and hope inspired millions through the institutions he founded...". Kennedy is buried at Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery in Ft. Lauderdale.

New home for Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship

"This new facility will help form Christian statesman, as members and staff access a library of 2000 volumes drawn from Dr. Kennedy's personal collection and sermons preached during his lifetime.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) March 20, 2013

The D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship, a Christian ministry to legislators, staffers, and interns on Capitol Hill, has acquired a permanent home two blocks from the U.S. Capitol building.

The new facility, a stately three-story row house built in 1890, will be the site of ministry activity and house the new D. James Kennedy Library on Capitol Hill. Renovations are already underway on the spacious structure in preparation for the grand opening in June.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the new center for ministry so close to where lawmakers and their staff work,” said Dr. John B. Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, the parent organization of the Center for Christian Statesmanship. “This elegant building will be an enormous asset to our outreach on Capitol Hill.”

Dr. Sorensen noted that the new D. James Kennedy Library “will help form Christian statesmen, as Members and staff access a library of some 2,000 volumes drawn from Dr. Kennedy's personal collection, as well as about 2,000 sermons he preached during his lifetime.”

Founded in 1995 by the late D. James Kennedy, a minister, author, and evangelical leader, the Center for Christian Statesmanship has impacted thousands of lives by bringing a gospel witness, Christian discipleship, and a vision for Christian statesmanship to leaders in Washington.

The Center's Executive Director George Roller leads a wide range of ministry activities, including “Politics and Principle Luncheons” at which Christian Members of Congress share their faith testimony; Bible studies for legislators, staffers and interns; special intern events, such as backyard barbecues, where hundreds of interns gather in a Christian setting; and special lectures where key Christian leaders and thinkers share a Christian witness to the Capitol Hill community.

“The Center does not do any sort of political action,” said Dr. Sorensen, leader of Evangelism Explosion which saw nearly eight million professions of faith in Christ worldwide in 2012. “We simply minister to Members of Congress, their staff, and those that come and serve as interns on Capitol Hill. It is our hope and prayer to see a dramatic expansion of the Center's outreach with this wonderful new facility.”
