Family-Placed Obituary

ELEANOR "ELAINE" KONZELMAN August 18, 1930 - March 22, 2010 Our beloved wife and mother, Elaine, passed away peacefully in Huntington Beach, CA, surrounded by her husband and children. Elaine was born in Canyon, TX to Tracy and Johnnie Service. The young family moved to Oklahoma City, OK and later settled in Toledo, OH where she eventually met and married Gordon Gilbert in 1954, unto their union were born four children. Elaine loved to be adventurous and experience new places. While in Hawaii, on the island of Maui, she met Alan Konzelman. They were married in 1982 and lived in Palm Beach County, FL for 28 years sharing a love of the ocean and travel. During their many worldwide trips she came to love dolphins, which became a symbol of her life. She enjoyed a long career in the travel industry including owning and operating the Palm Beach Travel School, travel agencies, leading tour groups, as well as being involved in radio talk shows. She was an active member of the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center Auxiliary and served as President for three years. Nearing the end of a long illness, she recently moved to California to be near her children. She is survived by her loving husband, Alan Konzelman; her four beloved children, Karen Gilbert, Sandra (Charlie) Mattson, Ronald Gilbert, John (Ann) Gilbert-Zald; her four grandchildren, Ryan Gilbert, Melinda (Shane) Adams-Allen, Stephen Gilbert, Aidan Gilbert and three great-grandchildren Hannah, June and Shane, Jr. Allen. From her sister, Janice (Jim) Haffey who preceded her in death, she is survived by Nancy (George) Talton, Cindy Haffey, Lori (John) Frost and Charlie (Billie) Haffey as well as their children and grandchildren. Other surviving relatives include Elaine's step-children and step-grandchild. She dearly loved her sisters in life, Sue Sweeney, Virginia "Ginny" Kretz and Dorothy "Dot" Cotton. Elaine will be forever loved and missed.. Memorial service will be held May 1, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach at 1:00 PM. Gathering to follow at Alan and Elaine's home in Palm Beach Gardens.
