George Theobald Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

GEORGE FRANCIS THEOBALD, Jr. A longtime Florida resident, died of cancer related ailments at the Palm Beach County Hospice's Gerstenberg Center in West Palm Beach, FL, on Thursday, March 18, 2010. He was 65 years old. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on October 14, 1944 to George Francis Theobald, Sr. and Ethel Nelson while his father was serving in the United States Army. His childhood was spent in North Arlington, NJ where he resided with his mother and in Florida where he spent time with his father; a leader in the rendering industry and partner in the family business of Theobald Industries. He was a 1963 graduate of North Arlington High School in North Arlington, NJ and attended the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Theobald Conlin; son, Merrick Nelson Theobald; son-in-law, Sean Conlin; daughter-in-law, Marcy Palmer Theobald; father, George Theobald, Sr.; step-mother, Virginia Theobald; sister, Georgette Theobald Walsh; brothers, Glenn and Graig Theobald and his five grandchildren, Taylor, Karsyn, Merrick, Jr., Maclain and Caleigh. He worked from college until retirement in the family rendering business, Florida Transport, where he was a senior executive. During his spare time he volunteered with Republican political campaigns and served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, FL. His children will always remember that even with a diagnosis of terminal cancer, he traveled with the church to provide emergency relief in the days following hurricane Katrina. A loving father, he led with a firm hand and an enormous heart. He taught his children respect and love for each other and the world, and that a father is always there to help and stand by you. We will miss his smile, his jokes, his love for animals but mostly we will miss him. He was the most loyal and loving, son, brother, father and grandfather that a family could have. He will be cremated with a memorial service to be held at First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, 33 Gleason Street, Delray Beach, FL on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the church's pastoral fund. To express condolences and/or make donations Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries

I'd like to convey my Condolences to the family. I worked at Theobald Industries in Bayonne in 1974 with Harry and George. We then moved the business to Kearny. I'm not sure if the George Theobald that I knew well, is the George that passed away. I was very close to Harry,Martin and George. Now, I'm aware there were alot of George Theobalds and I want to convey my condolences to the family, but i'm not sure if this is the George Theobald I worked with. In any case, i am very sorry for your loss. It's so extremely hard to lose a family member and dear friend. I'm sure he'll be dearly missed. Jim Brougham
