Family-Placed Funeral Notice

HELEN WALEND Helen Walend, (nee Jurczynski), age 87, of Boynton Beach, Florida, and formerly of Lorain, Elyria, Toledo, and Miami, Florida, died Monday March 14, 2005 at the home of her daughter in Sonoma, California following an extended illness. Mrs. Walend was born February 22, 1918 in Lorain and had been a resident of Florida since 1957 after moving from residences in Ohio. A long-time member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union, she was a parishioner of Saint Mark's Catholic Church in Boynton Beach and was a former parishioner of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain, Ohio. Her interests included cooking as well as growing and cultivating orchids. Helen is survived by her sons: Kenneth of Brevard, North Carolina and Thomas of Margate, Florida, a daughter: Cynthia Battershall of Sonoma, California, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a brother: Joseph Jurczynski residing in Mulberry, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years: Frank in 2000, by her parents: Joseph and Mary (nee Filipowicz) Jurczynski, by five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday in Lorain, Ohio. The family encourages memorials in Mrs. Walend's memory to Saint Leo's Development Fund in care of Saint Leo's Catholic Church - 601 Agua Caliente Road - Sonoma, California 95476.
