Howard G. Minsky, a Hollywood insider best known for producing the Oscar-nominated Love Story, died Sunday at his home. He was 94.
Mr. Minksy began his long career in the film industry in the 1920s at the age of 8, when he distributed advertising fliers door to door in exchange for free admission to the local theater, which showed silent pictures.
Roughly 15 years later, he landed a job at Warner Bros. studios. He then moved on to Fox and then to Paramount. Finally, he became an agent at the ubiquitous and powerful William Morris Agency.
He quit the William Morris agency in the late 1960s to shepherd a little film about a young love affair with a tragic end. Love Story won five Golden Globes, including best picture. The movie was nominated for five Oscars and won for best music.
Minksy wrote of his own love story, about his 65-year marriage to Sylvia, in The Love of My Life: the Memoirs of Howard G. Minksy, in 2007. Sylvia died in 2001 in New York.
In Palm Beach County, Minsky was also a philanthropist, pledging $100,000 to the Dreyfoos School of the Arts film department in 2005. Minksy told the students: "Never, ever, ever give up on your dreams. If you want it to happen, you can make it happen." Mr. Minsky also supported programs for Jewish education in Palm Beach and Los Angeles.
Mr. Minsky is survived by his daughter, Marcia Halperin of Los Angeles, and his son, Barry Minksy of New York, and three grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, West Palm Beach.

For Howard...
Who can ever forget your
production of Love Story?
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye to my Rotarian brother. He embodied the Rotarian motto of "Service above Self" in every aspect of his life. I will always cherish the chats we had during our weekly morning meetings. He was a great man and we will all miss him.

Howard,
I have so enjoyed knowing you and talking with you about your life in show biz and other things. You always had a smile and a big hug for me when I saw you in Temple. We had a great time when we went to Israel with our families and our Rabbi with the Temple Israel trip several years ago. I remember you said you wanted to plant a tree in Israel and you did! You had such a zest for life, and touched so many people and did so much good for others. You will be greatly missed by all of us.

Dear Howard,
With great sorrow I learned that you left us to be with your beloved Sylvia. You were not just a gentleman but a gentle man, with a high moral standard, an abundance of energy and strong religious convictions. I will treasure forever your friendship. It is a lesser place we live in without you.
Sincerely with love,
Archie
