THE REVEREND DR. ISAAC F. MITCHELL, SR. Rev. Dr. Isaac F. Mitchell Sr., 85, of Delray Beach, FL went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2012. Dr. Mitchell served with distinction for 30 years in the public schools in Jackson, Washington, Suwannee, and Palm Beach County, Florida. He retired from service in the public school system in 1979 to pursue full time ministry in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Dr. Mitchell was ordained as an Itinerant Elder in the A. M. E. Church in 1970 and served as pastor for the following congregations in Florida, St. John A.M.E. Church, Pompano Beach; Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, Riviera Beach, Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Dania Beach, Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Melbourne, St. Paul A.M.E. Church, West Palm Beach, Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Lake Wales, and Hurst Chapel A.M.E. Church, Riviera Beach. During his service at Hurst Chapel, Dr. Mitchell led the people of God in expanding the ministry by erecting the $1.2 million dollar Fayson-Mitchell Multipurpose Christian Center. Dr. Mitchell served as Chair of the South Conference Board of Examiners for 20 years and Secretary of the Ministerial Fellowship of the Palm Beaches and represented the South Conference as a Delegate to the General Conference of the A. M. E. Church from 1988-1992. He retired from the pastoral ministry in 2004. Dr. Mitchell was an active member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and the Fraternal Order of Masons. Dr. Mitchell was married to the late Alma Bowers Mitchell for 50 years and was father of four; Isaac F. Mitchell II (Ethel), Gregory A. Mitchell (Keturah), Ronald K. Mitchell (Deborah), and Colleen Mitchell Robbs (Bevans). He had 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 119 NW 5th Ave., Delray Beach, FL, The Rev. La'Tanya Floyd, Pastor. Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church, 801 9th St., West Palm Beach, FL, The Rev. Milton Broomfield, Pastor.
