Jacqueline HOFF Obituary

HOFF,
Jacqueline Goodyear
Jacqueline Goodyear Hoff died on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at her home in Raleigh, North Carolina after a four year battle with lupus erythematosus, ovarian cancer and a very progressive form of Parkinson's disease. Mrs. Hoff was a resident, with her husband Lawrence C. Hoff, at the Cypress of Raleigh since its opening in 2008. She was born in Peoria, Illinois, but moved to California as a child and always considered herself a Californian. She graduated from Newport Union High School in 1947 and matriculated at Stanford University the same year. Mrs. Hoff graduated from Stanford in 1952 with a Bachelor's Degree With Great Distinction in education and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. While at Stanford, she met fellow student, Larry Hoff, and they were married on January 27, 1950. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with their children in January. Mrs. Hoff moved with her husband and his career in the pharmaceutical industry to San Francisco, Palo Alto, Honolulu, Dallas and finally to company headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan. While living in Kalamazoo, she earned a Master's Degree in special education from Western Michigan University. The Hoffs bought a second home in Florida in 1986. In 2000, they left Kalamazoo and made Old Marsh Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida their sole residence, where they could enjoy year-round golf and gardening. In 2002, they added a summer home at Linville Ridge Country Club looking out at Grandfather Mountain in western North Carolina. In 2008, they moved their official residence to Raleigh. Mrs. Hoff traveled the world extensively with her husband and visited over sixty different countries including such exotic places as the Seychelles Islands, Nepal, Bali, Bora Bora, the Svalbard Islands, Cape Town, Casablanca and the Great Wall of China. An active volunteer in the schools her children attended, Mrs. Hoff served in many capacities on the PTAs, including president. She also chaired the local March of Dimes Campaign, was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and a supporter of the Kalamazoo YMCA. As a founding member of the "Ladies Lunch Group," Mrs. Hoff met weekly at the Kalamazoo Country Club with dear friends for over 20 years. She was also in several bridge clubs, including a couples club with Mr. Hoff. An avid reader, she belonged to book clubs and enjoyed attending author lectures with her husband. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hoff leaves behind her children Cathy (Dr. David) Cantor, Dr. Frederick Hoff (Dr. Charles Sisung) and Lisa Hoff; her grandchildren Dr. Lauren (Rabbi Benjy) Bar-Lev, Rob Cantor (fiancée Allison Kurtzer) and Alyssa Cantor (fiancée of Josh Kalisky); her great-granddaughter Samantha Bar-Lev; her sister and brother-in-law Diane (David) McClure; her sister-in-law Erma (Dan) Greer; and nieces, nephews and their families. A private service was held for the family. Those wishing to honor Mrs. Hoff's memory may do so with a donation to The American Red Cross or a charity of their choice.

Cathy, I don't know if you remember me, but we used to play together when you went to Winchell and lived on Bruce. I'm sorry about your mother. I do remember her when she was pregnant with your sister. It's strange what we remember. Hope you and your family are doing well. Take care. Thoughts and prayers to you. Kathee (Stratton) Bauman
