Today I sit and think of Lamar Shuler, and when I think of him I think of his family. The people that Love and miss him most. Well a year has passed and I only pray that the load has became lighter to bare. I know that somedays has been harder then others, and when you call out to him his voice seems to be fading away, I know you still stop and look for him to enter into a room, but keep one thing in mind that you will see his face again on the other side.
Just when the load start to get heavy and you get tried, think and do as Lamar did "JUST HOLD ON".

Dr. Carey-Shuler & Families:
My daughters join me in extending sincere sympathy to you and your families--both your personal and funeral staff families--during this most difficult period of your lives. The death of a loved one is never easy, yet there is comfort in knowing that Lamar Shuler is at sweet rest, and that God in His infinite wisdom will continue to sustain all of you during your bereavement.
Having recently experienced the death of my husband, I know your personal grief. Be reminded that time does heal all wounds, or at least make them more bearable. Memories do last for a lifetime, and there is comfort in knowing that Lamar Shuler touched many lives. He personally shared the bereavement of the many families who entrusted their loved ones into his care. Certainly his living was not in vain.
I am proud that he was my colleague in funeral service, and prouder of the fact that he was the consummate professional. Truly he left his mark in this honorable profession.
May the peace of the Lord be with you always. I remind you to "trust in the Lord with all your heart . . . for He will direct your path." Be blessed.

The staff and board of the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency are deeply saddened by the death of our Chairman, James Lamar Shuler. Lamar served on the CRA board for 5 years, the last several months as Chairman. He also served for many years on the board of the West Atlantic Redevelopment Coalition, and was chair of that board as well. Lamar was deeply committed to the revitalization of Delray Beach and the West Atlantic area. He had been in Delray through the years of disinvestment and blight, when most of the shops were empty and there was no reason to go downtown, but he believed very strongly that the City could come back and that it could be someplace special. And he wanted to be involved in that comeback. Lamar was an unapologetic advocate for progress. He put his own dollars and his hard work into renovating his funeral home on West Atlantic so that it stood out as a gem. He served on boards and committees, giving of his time and energy even during the worst stages of his illness, because he wanted to see things improve and he wanted to make a difference.
Lamar believed very strongly in growth and redevelopment, and he embraced change, but he was also committed to making sure that everyone benefited from the progress, and that the "little guy" didn’t get left out. He believed in treating everyone with dignity and respect. He was a big supporter of the CRA’s affordable housing programs and initiatives to help small businesses, and a champion of projects like the conversion of the LaFrance Hotel into housing for low income elderly residents. It was a pleasure working with him on the CRA board because he understood how important these projects were to the West Atlantic community and the City as a whole, and how people’s lives could truly be changed for the better. He always got the big picture. We are all so thankful for the time we had with him and for the leadership he provided, and we will miss him terribly.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Barbara, and your family.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to you Mrs. James Lamar Shuler and to all the administrators at Shuler’s Memorial Chapel. We are indeed sorrowful for the death of our dear friend James Lamar Shuler. He will be sadly missed. But, we leave these encouraging words to you, “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” ( I Thess 4:13,14,16,17)

To the family of James "Lamar" Shuler
I am deeply saddened by the death of Mr. Shuler, it was many years ago in the 1980's when he first restored the funeral home at 606 West Atlantic Avenue, in Delray Beach, that I was hired as a young man and became apart of his original staff.
As a native resident of Delray Beach I became intrigued and moved by the restoration and remodeling of that facility, I approached him about my becoming an employee, when the facility was completed. He agreed and I became a staff member.
I am pleased to say that he helped in my molding, affirming the solid foundation, comprehensive directions and the clear focus that I would need throughout the years in working with families and dealing with others during one of life's most difficult and trying times.
Mere words are not enough to express, in letting the family know that he was a Professional and Professor in his love for and delivery of his chosen profession.
His dedication for the funeral industry elevated him on the local, state, and national levels in funeral service. I am sincerely glad that he touched my life.
"In life their are some people that come into our lives and stay but for a short while, and then their are others that come into our lives and stay for ever, and leave thier footprints upon the sands of time. His footprints are still in the sand.
