Jay Ecklund Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

JAY F. ECKLUND Jay F. Ecklund of Wayzata, MN and Ft. Lauderdale, FL died peacefully in his home on February 26, 2012, at the age of 75. Jay was born in Minneapolis, MN and summered on Lake Minnetonka, where he gained a lifelong passion for boating. Not only did Jay have a passion for the water, he loved being an entrepreneur. He successfully built Young America Corporation in Young America, MN, where he worked until his retirement in 1997 as Chairman and CEO. During his retirement, he could be found cruising his yacht in the Caribbean, East Coast, or to his favorite destination, Harbour Island, Bahamas where he loved spending holidays with family and friends. Jay touched thousands of lives through his business and travels and it will be his unique sense of humor, witty banter, creative problem solving and personal counsel that many will remember. Jay is survived by his two sons, John Francis Ecklund (Jeff) of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Sheldon Mckenzie Ecklund of North Palm Beach, FL as well as his brother, Phillip C. Ecklund of Boulder, CO and his sister Virginia E. Sweatt of Orono, MN. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine T. Ecklund and J. Frank Ecklund, Sr., and his sister, Elizabeth E. Ratcliff. A memorial in Minnesota is being planned by his sons in late May. To express condolences and/or make donations Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries

Many thanks to Jay for his generous support of community organizations. I am glad we were able to reconnect a couple of years ago since Blake in the 1940s. I will miss him. My deepest condolences to his family.

There is a Jay shaped hole in my heart. When I lost my only child, Tony, two and a half years ago, Jay helped me through my darkest hour with loving emotional support. Now he too is gone. Perhaps Tony was there to help welcome Jay into heaven where I hope to see both of them again someday.

Jay was a friend of mine going back to his investment business days and more recently working with him on his generosity to the Minnesota Orchestra and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

We are in Florida but wish to express our deepest sympathy.
