Jerome Cohen Obituary

JEROME COHEN, M.D. of San Marino Way in Lake Worth, Florida formerly of Troy, New York died Friday January 3, 2003 at his residence in Lake Worth. Dr. Cohen was born in the Bronx and resided in Troy since 1948 moving to Florida 12 years ago upon his retirement. He had been a well known practicing Physician in Troy in private practice and was also associated with Samaritan Hospital in Troy. He had been the Medical Director of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in the Capital District for many years. He was a member and Past President of Temple Beth El in Troy. He also served on the Board of Directors of Blue Cross - Blue Shield and the Visiting Nurses Association. He had also been President of the Troy Jewish Federation. For twenty five years Dr. Cohen served as chairman of the Israel Bond Drive. He had also been a member of the Troy School Board at one time. He was a veteran serving during World War II and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Rita Berner Cohen, and his cherished daughters Harriet Rappaport of NYC and Laura B. Cohen of Albany, NY. Father in law of Jay Rappaport. Brother of Cecile Joseph of Lake Worth, Florida and Jessica Winig of Lafayette, California. Devoted grandfather of Julie R. Rappaport and Katie S. Rappaport. He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews. Services at Temple Beth El 411 Hoosick Street in Troy, NY on Wednesday January 8, 2003 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Beth El Cemetery on Belle Avenue in Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth El, Hadassah or the Hospice of Palm Beach County Inc. 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida 33407. Funeral arrangements are by the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York.
