Family-Placed Obituary

JOSEPH E. EDDLETON Eddleton, Joseph E. passed away on February 14, 2009 at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 101. An electrical engineer, he received his degrees from Cooper Union and New York University. He started his career working for Electric Bond and Share and for the New York City Board of Transportation where he helped design the electronics for the city subway system. During World War II he served in the Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey where his division developed the instrumentation to stop the V-Bombs of Nazi Germany. He also served in the Pentagon in Washington, where he received an award from Great Britain for designing and implementing a conversion system between metric and non Ðmetric components on a very large shipment of Sherman tanks sent from Canada to the British forces in North Africa. After the War he established an electronic manufacturing plant at 43 Vesey Street in New York City, on the site where the twin towers were later built. An avid canoeists who raced ships on the Hudson River, he loved classical music and was a dedicated amateur photographer. He and his beloved wife, the former Anne Thall, who predeceased him in the year 2000, attended open-air concerts in New York City and in concert halls during their long lives together. Upon retirement to Florida, they moved to Golden Lakes Village in West Palm Beach where he served as head of the Technical Committee, taught electrical theory and wrote historical articles for the 'Golden Lakes Village Talk'. He is survived by his two daughters, Judith Nachamie of Sands Point, New York and Dorothy Chary-Morrissey of Queensbury, New York, their husbands Barton Nachamie and Robert J. Morrissey, six grandchildren, eighteen great- grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
