I became good friends with Joe Dogs for over 10 years the last part of his life in Kerrville Texas. I will never forget him. He told me people can change. I believe he did. I have to say I really miss him. We co-wrote a song about his life that was going to be used in a movie about him. He passed away before the movie ever came to fruition.Rest in peace old friend. "Fugetaboutit!"

Sweet Joe. Much sadness hearing this news. You were a wonderful gentleman and good friend to my family, especially caring when you stopped by to visit my own father each week as he dying. I enjoyed listening to your stories and talking "shop" (aka food and cooking) with you! We shared many laughs and smiles. May you Rest in His Eternal Peace. -Tera Diamond

Heartfelt condolences to Joe's family. I met him in Texas and he became like a second father to me. He taught me how to read a horse racing form and we would go to the track in Fredericksburg often. He would give you the shirt off his back, not to mention what a great cook he was. Rest in peace my friend. You deserve all that heaven has to offer.

RIP Joe

"Rock of the Marne". Joe and I both served in the 3rd Infantry Division, Joe in the Korean Conflict and me, much later, in the '80s in USAEUR. After we discovered this mutual bond, Joe let me read his unpublished accounts of his experience in Korea, maybe someday this will be published. I'm proud to have known him, he was a good man, loyal to his family. He was a real hero, courageous to the end.

My condolences to the entire family.

Joe, we will miss you but we will never forget you.

To all that loved my big brother,

I'm his, (as he referred to me) little sister. My brother was intelligent, warm and loving, but most of all a comedian. Joe and I share that in common. My jokes were always 'DUH' jokes but his were so clever. I always got a chuckle out of him though. I also used so many of his recipes. I'm not the chef he was but I was always pleased with the final product. I use to ask him for cooking ideas and he would generally come up with something.

I can't believe he's gone because he was such a presence. God rest his soul. Love you Joe.

Dad,

Had a dream of you last night. Was a bitter sweet dream. Healthy and dancing with mommy. Those are the best dreams and memories I have when we were kids watching you dance. I miss talking to you, but I know you coming to me last night was to reassure me that you are good...

Love your daughter,

Stephanie

Dad,

You were the magnet that drew many to you. You had a charisma that could not be replicated. I will miss you so much. Our cooking, recipe sharing and brainstorming about food. I am sad to see you leave this earth but, in my heart I know that our last conversation on September 17th was such a meaningful spiritual one that I will never forget. I will miss you at the Holidays and am thankful that you encouraged and cultivated my love for cooking......You were an amazing Chef and your recipes will live on forever with a whisk in your hand!
