Family-Placed Funeral Notice

JOSEPH J. NEGLEY Age 93, died peacefully at his home in Atlantis, FL on September 6, 2006. He was born in New York City, December 28, 1912, and graduated Lyndhurst High School, NJ class of 1931. In 1936 he married Bernice Haley and they resided in Montclair and Essex Fells, NJ for many years. They also spent time at their beachhouse in Brick, NJ and winters in Atlantis, FL. Mr. Negley worked for Employers Liability Insurance Co., Ltd., until 1960, when he founded and became chairman of J.J. Negley Associates Inc. located in Cedar Grove, NJ. He retired in 1990, at which time he was chairman of Chatham & Essex Corp., and Bernthel Realty, Inc., as well as belonging to numerous professional insurance associations and trustee for JFK Hospital in Florida. He enjoyed fishing and golf and was a member of Essex Fells and Atlantis Country Clubs. He was an active philanthropist in the field of health care. Joseph is survived by his wife of seventy years Bernice, of Brick, NJ, a daughter Judy Niles, of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, a son Edward (Bud) Negley M.D., of Normandy Beach and Naples Florida. There are nine grandchildren, John, Daniel, Jo Anne, Thomas, Nancy, Laurie, Joseph, Michael and David, and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Brick, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations to Alzheimer's research would be appreciated. The family wishes to give our heartfelt thanks to Maureen and all others involved in the extraordinary care given to Mr. Negley in Florida.
