I remember the fun fishing trips with my parents in the late 1940's aboard Kenny Lyman's charter boat, the "Lucky Penny," named for his wife, Penny. My late husband, Sam Ogren, Jr., who passed away last November, knew Kenny well. My husband lived in Delray all his life. We owned a sport fishing boat and while we were out fishing he would get tips from Kenny, on the marine radio, where the fish were biting. Sam knew all the charter boat captains. Kenny was the most well known because everyone knew of Lyman's Sport Fishing Docks. Kenny was very well liked and admired by all who knew him. He was one heck of a great boat captain. You never went home empty handed when fishing aboard the Lucky Penny, but more importantly, he was an even greater human being. He will be fondly remembered for many years to come.
My heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's entire family. Also to his friends and former customers who, like myself, will forever remember the good times, whether aboard the Lucky Penny or just talking to him about fishing. I'll bet Kenny and my late husband, Sam, are in Heaven having fun talking about the "good old days" of fishing off the Boynton Inlet in their boats. They are probably joined by all the other charter boat captains from Boynton who went before them. God blessed Kenny with a good and long life.

As a bonafide Boyntonite - A flood of wonderful memories come to mind when I think of the name Lyman. Kenny and family had a tremendous impact on shaping Boynton in a quiet and sutble way. Lyman's docks etc provided both economic and social benefit to a quiet and safe community then unknown to most that were discovering other parts of Florida. And while many searched for treasures off shore I was one of the fortuate to have known some of the overlooked treasures on-shore such as the Lyman's. Some of my favorite childhood mental images are Kenny/Penny at the docks (not to mention Penny telling "the tornado" story. My love, thoughts, prayers and appreciation to all the Lymans!
