KEVIN MICHAEL WELBY, Sr. 'Mike' 71, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL passed away February 26, 2008. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1936 Mike joined the Navy in 1952 and enjoyed 44 years of Military service. Mike's service spanned from the Korean conflict through Desert Storm as both an Aerial and Underwater photographer. Mike received a BS from Boston University School of Television and Movie Production in 1968. Mike did tours of duty on the USS Ranger, the Saratoga, the F.D.R., the Teddy Roosevelt and the J.F.K. Mike retired from the carrier Independence as a Command Master Chief in 1996. Mike also enjoyed a long career with Raytheon Corporation as a photographer and cinematographer. After retiring Mike moved to Florida and did volunteer work teaching handicapped children to play golf. Mike also held memberships in the American Legion, the Moose Club, the Elks, the VFW and the McCampbell's Aces Squadron of the Association of Naval Aviation. Mike is survived by five children and eight grandchildren. Mike is also survived by a brother Jack Welby of Bridgewater, MA and a sister Gail Condon of Hanover, MA. Funeral services will be held at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church on Monday March 3 at 10:00 am: 13591 Prosperity Farms Rd., Palm Beach Gardens, FL (561) 626-8626 Interment will be held in Boston, MA on Friday, March 7, 2008. In lieu of flowers the family requests that gifts can be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the American Heart Association.
